Great list Merlin and pretty tough to argue with, not that I would, it's all subjective of course but criteria is the main source of confusion I guess.

I always thought Dave Scultz's 74-75 season was amazing because of the record number of pims, the 8 post season fights, and him winning the cup again but you have his 73-74 season instead which was probably just as impactful, if not more so that makes sense and maybe his winning percentage was better. It's hard to know without all the video available to me.

Great stuff, top shelf.

I am probley one of the oldest posters on this site , if not the oldest , I can remember how tough the players where in their flimsey gear back in the 60's &70's , some of you only hear the names like Fern Flayman , John Ferguson (many think of Ferguson as the first real "ENFORCER" in hockey) , Bill Masterton ( who died from an injurey during a game) , or the name of Keith Magnuson , (killed in the car accident that Rammage was driving) , these are just some of the players that I saw live play .
Players like Gordie Howe, Bobby Hull , Maurice Richard , became household names and still are , these players where superstars of their day that had too fight their own battles against the Flayman's, Ferguson's, Fontanatos , they did not have the "ENFORCERS" the stars of today have to protect them , they to me where the real tough players of the game , not the so called enforcers that spend half the season siting in the press box !!!!

Actually many think of Red Horner as the first true policeman. I remember reading a book from like 1974 that my Dad bought for me and it was on NHL policeman from the past and guys like BlackJack Stewart, Horner, Eddie Shore, Pat Egan, and Gus Mortson were mentioned.
Fergie is my main man and I always write that he was the most impactful policeman ever but he was far from the first! John Ferguson was such a nice man also and I cherish his last cards that we exchanged from him and Joan! He was always so kind to my Aunt and Uncle in Hells Kitchen and their Son Richie!
RIP Fergie!

Great list and a lot of work in there!

Garry Howatt's 29 fight 1973-74 season deserves some mention. He caught a lot of guys by surprise the only one I'm sure he lost was to Larry Robinson.
