New GM Game

Ok it seems like there's been enough interest over the summer for this but not all at the same time. I'll make a new thread here so we don't clutter up the other one, which goes back about two years (what number are we even on now). If we get around 15 players I think we can at least choose teams somehow. More would be better though.

Also discuss any rule changes that would make the game better this time around. I saw you guys talking about a salary cap which sounds more fun. I say we also keep rosters as they currently are with remaining FAs staying on the team they last played for. It's been a couple years since I've played this but I think that's how we normally do the summer game. If you've got another idea, put it out there.

Ex. Shane Doan IS on PHX.

I still like the idea of a historical draft maybe or something like that.

The problem I see happening with a draft is everyone is going to pick the players they want, obviously. Once you pick the players you want, why would you trade them? Unless there's maybe something I don't understand and you can elaborate? This is the first I'm hearing about it by the way but it sounds like it's been talked about before.

I proposed the idea before but it never got going. It's probably too time consuming. The down fall is as you said, some people might not want to trade after drafting their favorite players. Maybe vote on who has the best team. Each team could make an argument as to why their team would win. I don't know, it just seems like a great way to test people's knowledge of the past. Maybe even get some old timers to join.

Cool. Keep the signups coming.

Here is the most recent rules thread I could find, in case anyone is new or needs a refresher: Rules

But is this a game with a simulator or something like that? Or the goal really is all about building a team that you think is good and when it's done it's over?

Is the draft pool from a certain year or time period? That's an interesting idea but it does sound like trades would be harder to do. For instance, CatSmasher, who thanked your post, would obviously draft Wendell Clark and then hold onto him the whole game. But I'm down for whatever the majority wants to do.

It's all done via private messaging. There will be a roster thread where you post your team. Just follow everyone else's lead. There will also be a trading thread opened where you post trade terms that you've discussed with another player via PM. Again, just follow everyone else's lead and you'll understand.

Ah what the hell, I'll play. I haven't played in over 4 years, but it could be fun.
