Metropolitan Quebec City has a population of 717,600 , almost three quarters of a million , I think they can support a team with the outlying area population of a hundred miles having twice that many PPL , I don't think they qualify as "SMALL MARKET" , they just don't have an up to date arena to house a team .....

The population of Winnipeg is 633,451 , smaller City but "NEW ARENA" ...

And no, the Islanders aren't moving.
Way before the Nords the PPL of Quebec city were "HABS" fans and still are , nothing is going to change that , just makes for healthy competition to have two teams competing for same fans , like the Flames/Oilers in Alberta , the PPL love both teams but the rivalry between the cities is great for business ..

Quebec City CMA has 715, 000
But the metro Area has 1.2 million around the size of Hartford, Raleigh-Cary or Nashville.

Uh, no they don't. People in Calgary fuking hate the Oilers and I assume the same goes for those in Edmonton. I have friends in Red Deer (about half way between the two cities) and they are ALL either a Flames or Oilers fan, but NONE of them are both.

Sorry, you live and breath for one and hate the other, THAT is what is great about the battle of Alberta.

Winnipeg-Selkirk plus 14 rural municipalities (RM) has a total population of 730,305 , while the City of Quebec-Levis has a population of 1,109,184 surrounding small towns within a hundred mile radius having that many again ...

Try the farthest being St George which is 90km away, and most towns being within 65km. Again its the same as Raleigh-Cary and Greensboro.
