The rule change reads : Players who fight , or jump into on-ice brawlas "THIRD" combatant will be suspended for two games for the first offence , four for the second , "indefinately" for the third !!

To me it looks like they are going to inforce the the allready in place "THIRD MAN IN " rule , thats all , the instigator rule was alredy in place ...

Quebec Major Junior Hockey League general managers still don't know what rules will change this season regarding fighting and violence.

A 14-member committee is set to deliver recommendations for changes after an ugly playoff brawl sparked disapproval from the Quebec government.

Jacques Beaulieu, GM and coach of the Saint John Sea Dogs, said the topic was raised in a conference call between league GMs Tuesday.

"The discipline committee will come out with some rules. With the owners and governors meeting (this week in Victoriaville), it will be public Saturday," he said. League spokesman Karl Jahnke confirmed that's the plan, although the recommendations have been delayed since June.

Beaulieu said the only rule change he knows about would deal with players taking penalties after the whistle. The ensuing face-off would be in front of the penalized team's net, regardless of where the penalty was taken. Jahnke said any rule changes would become official only after approved by the governors and owners, who meet from Thursday through Sunday.

Thanks, I thought that because they're all under the same umbrella organization, that they would all follow the same rules.

Take things out of context much? If this was "theworldsworstproblems.com" you'd have a point. Given that this is a hockey fight site and an issue that will effect hockey fighting, it could potentially be a big deal around here depending on how it all shakes out. Seeing as how all of us(well most anyway) are big fans of tough hockey at any level, especially one of the major junior leagues that sends guys to different professional leagues in North America.

Ok. If junior hockey without fighting means the end of your world you should try to get a life.

It's not the end of the world, but there could certainly be a trickle-up effect to the pro leagues that could mean even less fighting and tough hockey in the future than we are seeing now. That's why this is a big deal.

I still don't understand how an entire province can get its panties in a bunch over one punk who sucks at being a goalie going too far in a brawl.

Blouin the "Q" has always bin a run and gun league anyway , it comes no-were near the WHL for the rough and tumble style of hockey that we love on this site , the Ohl is twice as rough , but the west is something else , they are on another plateau when it comes to hard hitting drop the gloves style of hockey , thats why you dont see many "Europeans" playing in the WHL , its just to rough for them , that "ROY" incident was blown way out of proportion , the league is over-reacting to a player that lost his cool and it could have that trickel down effect , but I hope not ....

While I am sure playing in a soft league is a draw last I knew the WHL had a limit on the number of euros a team could carry. I think that has a lot to do with them not playing there as well.
Too bad all leagues dont adopt that rule, the sport would be much better off.

Nobody here is saying this is earth shattering news like global warming, price gouging by oil companies or the Iraq war but to fans of hockey fights yes this is indeed terrible news and in effect if junior leagues did ban fighting it would be the "end of the world" in a hockey fighting sense because it would lead to a huge drop in fights in all leagues.

I really try to understand you Ciccarelli, you have hockey knowledge thats for sure, you seem to like fights and rough play but you try to start so many arguments on this site for what reason? If stating internet wars is your idea of a good time then its you sir that needs to get a life.

All CHL leagues have the same rules on imports. Only two per team.

This is the review recommended to the QMJHL.

http://www.lhjmq.qc.ca/navcache/getc...s&content=view

It doesn't eliminate fighting one on one.

Insitgating has a game misconduct attached to it now although goalie fights will now add a 5-game suspension so safe to say they won't be happening anymore. (Pages 22-26 is the recommeded changes to fighting rules)

However, that is a recommedation, not the new rules although i expect that report will be adopted as it is.
