From my point of view, it would be a disservice to the players to ban fighting as long as it still exists in the pro's, including the NHL.
Depends on the jurisdiction, in BC it's 19.

In Mississippi it's 21.

Either way, organized fighting among teenagers, including boxing, wrestling etc. has always been a grey area but usually accepted, not sure why hockey should be any different.

I have watched two live Junior A games and two on TV since the regular season started last Thursday , their has been fights in all four games , their has been an instigator in most of the fights , yesterday was the first time I have seen the instigator penalty called .
The way that one works if an instigator penalty is called on the player that started the fight only that player is charged with a fight on his ten fight record , the player that just fought to protect himself gets a buy in that fight ..

I don't see the need to panic over this rule.

The leagues have brought this on themselves. Every time they played a guy who had no business being on the ice they took a chance that it might bring negative attention to the sport.
Not that I didn't get a kick out of this:
Brendan Tedstone vs Robin Big Snake - YouTube

I always relate it to commercial fishing, (live on Cape Cod now). These guys fish the waters clean THEN complain that they have limits imposed. Fighting is the same way. If they let the players, guys who can actually play a regular shift, play and allow them some leeway when it comes to fighting then things would be fine. But, no, they had to get the biggest, baddest goons they could find to send a message. It backfired.

Instead of the ten fight limit I thought it should be tied to ice time. I'd rather see the game 'evolve' back to where it used to be, players fighting not fighters playing.

Hmmm... Bilcke's at 3 fights already, I think he should try to get to 15 through suspensions, lol. Beyond that there's fines to his team so that's a no-no [unless he was instigated against]. It'll be awesome if he can get to 15.

Funny thing...The refs have called double instigators on fights. So, are the refs trying to get this rule axed?

Ironically, that so called "tub of shyt" has since lost a bunch of weight, and I think I heard that he's also attending school to save lives for a living. Whereas Big Snake tragically drank too much, jumped into his truck, and then proceeded to run over and killed a young woman a couple of years ago.
So, clearly, that "tub of shyt" is winning in life.

Probably because it's technically illegal no matter how old you are. A hockey fight is made up of bare knuckle combat. No gloves, no pads, no rules, no weight classes. No athletic commission the United States or Canada would sanction that.

That's where it differs from other forms of "organized fighting among teenagers." Hockey is in the greyest area there is when it comes to fighting.

In the games I have attended since the season started I have seen the instigator rule used very few times , don't know where you are seeing double instigators handed out , but the 5-10 game has been called more often than I have seen before , but it is usually just offsetting 5 for fighting , I have seen the instigator called a couple times that's all .
Could be I am not paying enough attention when they announce the penalties , I will listen closer in the future ..
