Gilles Courteau, who runs the QMJHL: QMJHL will not change their rules on fighting.

" M. Courteau a mentionné que la ligue était satisfaite avec les règlements en place."

(Mr. Courteau says the league is satisfied with the actual rules.)

Q already changed their rules on fighting this season.

Introduced a game misconduct for "staged fights"

Is it similar to the same rule the WHL implemented?

Quote:
1. Adoption of a staged fighting rule. Should a fight occur following a face-off during a game, it will be considered a staged fight. Should a stage fight occur during a pre-season, regular season or playoff game, the players involved shall each receive an automatic game misconduct in addition to the major penalty. Should one player clearly initiate or instigate the fight, only that player will receive the game misconduct in addition to a minor penalty for instigating the fight. Should the linesmen intervene and prevent the fight from starting, the players involved will each receive misconduct penalties.

Exactly the same. Introduced this season.

It appears they were even more sneaky than the WHL in terms of introducing this rule change. I didn't hear anything about that at all until now.

The first I heard about it was when it appeared on a pre-season boxscore - twice in one night.

Oh really? It actually mentioned that specifically? It was impossible to tell in the WHL because you receive an automatic game misconduct for fighting in the preseason to begin with.

I started posting a couple of years ago that fighting would be out of hockey in 5 years, and everyone jumped on me. In 5 years we will still see fights maybe 1 every 3-5 games and enforcer type players will have 5-7 fights a year.

To me, this fighting is out of the game. It starts in these Junior leagues and will feed into the NHL.

That's the same rule for preseason games in the OHL , in a recent game between the London Knights and Plymouth Whalers their was 7 fights in the preseason game , all players involved (14 of them) where tossed from the game with game misconducts ..

I am surprised you haven't been jumped all over for this post by some of the "IN DENIAL" posters on this site when it comes to the fact fighting will be gone from hockey in the near future , every time I post that fighting in hockey is on the way out you would think I raped their mother the way they jump on me ..

Last night there were still quite a few fights in the OHL. It'll slow down though once players get closer to the limit.

I too am surprised. About half this site only watches NHL and are in the 'try it out in juniors first' crowd when it comes to limiting/banning fighting.
