[Official] Construction on NHL-style arena in Quebec City to begin in September

Guys, most of you are f*cking retarded. They are building the arena in september, people/companies don't do that unless a deal has already been made. Hell, just preparing a speech SAYING you're going to build an arena takes alot of time, effort, and in some cases money. No one in their right mind would plan a stadium, and build said stadium, unless they are guaranteed a something in return i.e. an NHL hockey team.

I don't think it's been brought up in this thread, but the Islanders lease expires in 2015, when this arena would theoretically be ready.

Given the way Nordiques fans have come to some other arenas around the northeast over the past few seasons like a plague of locusts, I'm not sure the timing is coincidental.

I remember reading, and if true, a team can play there now so the question is what team has a lease expire between now and the start of the 2015 season. I dont know the status of these rinks but FLA, Dallas, Carolina, Columbus, PHX and ANA are likely candidates. Then there are the Islanders and Devils who dont draw well but I think the Devils just build a new rink. As for the Islanders heres a likely target since the owner and fans seem to like to antagonize each other.

Its obviously not a question of if a team will move but which team will move.

there has been a lawsuit pending, or lawsuit filed by workers of the nassau colliseum following the potential discovery of asbestos that's in areas accessible by workers and the public.

there's word the islanders could opt out of their lease and leave before 2015 is this is the case.

well this could go a few ways (in my head at least)
-Forcing them to have a new arena/move to a new one (wasnt there something about brooklyn going on?)
-
-move somewhere else while a new arena is built

not sure what else there is option wise

personally i don't think they deserve another one.

knuckler, there is the barclays center going up in brooklyn and the isles are playing a pre-season game there next season. though idk if they want to house an nhl team.

Ok then, its your opinion that the people involved in Quebec have spent all this time on this project and now they are breaking ground on a rink that will cost $400 million without any assurances from the nhl that a team is coming there.

Either they are the most brain dead optimisic people on the plant or your conclusions are based only upon whether YOU think they deserve a team or not.

yes i do think that...how can the nhl assure/guarantee that they will get a team? there is no guarantee with anything in the league except doing things ass-backwards.

seattle is building a new arena hoping to lure an nhl team to it, are they building it with a guarantee then as well, cause if you think that, then you are the brain dead one.

at least seattle is going about it alot better than quebec is.
