Nassau Coliseum Asbestos?

i brought this up in the quebec arena thread, but this seems to be turning into a pretty big deal. the isles could get out of their lease earlier than 2015 if the investigation proves the presence of asbestos in the arena.

Wang will do anything to get out of the deal. The best thing that could happen to the Isles as a result of this would be threefold.

1) Asbestos found and Isles get to break lease and leave
2)Asbestos makes Wang so sick he sells Isles and spends the rest of his life working in a chinese coal mine.

everything's becomming so shady at this point. the quebec arena becing completed by 2015 and the asbestos is making me thing this team might not end up in brooklyn. i guess they'll wait to see how that exhibition game goes, and if the arena is actually suitable for the viewing of a hockey game.

i find it odd that the format of he arena in brooklyn isn't coming into question more. its built for basketball and they don't even know if the sightlines will match up to hockey viewing.

if it sucks, they'll try to build it up with all the suites, but the truth is. if the common islander fan can't afford to go to games....the team is doomed regardless. nobody gives a **** about this team and i dont think a relocation on long island would help that.

This one isn't actually on the team, for a change. It's on Nassau County and SMG, who own/manage the Coliseum respectively. It's on the scumbag local politicians who have refused to move forward on any plans for a new arena all these years because of political posturing. If anything, it could work to Wang's advantage if they decide to try to get out of their lease earlier because of the asbestos issue.

Right now it looks like the best hope could be the new arena in Brooklyn, but we'll see how it works out given that it wasn't originally designed to house a hockey team.

Final thought: if their goal is to steal the Islanders, as it appears to be, Quebec City can go f*ck itself.

Not to hi-jack the thread but over the decades, I wonder how many players/workers who played in the old hockey barns(big and small)have gotten sick/died due to the asbestos used to insulate or build these rinks?

I'm pretty sure you're joking but it's hard to tell on the internet. Anyway, just in case you weren't, asbestos poisoning doesn't affect the mind.

Symptoms include:Chest wall pain

Pleural effusion, or fluid surrounding the lung

Shortness of breath

Fatigue or anemia

Wheezing, hoarseness, or cough

Blood in the sputum (fluid) coughed up (hemoptysis)


Milbury and Snow are just idiots, and Wang is insane.

Hard to believe that asbestos was even being used in construction when that rink was built, it got banned in the late 60's. The old Spectrum built in 1967 didn't have any, I guess it's possible though.

They started construction on the Coliseum back in 1969, so maybe it slipped through somehow.
