Lucic shaping the whole of the Northeast

Lucic shaping the whole of the Northeast

Quote:
Now I’m not saying Lucic is the only reason these moves were made, because he can’t fight everyone and there are different weight classes to consider. Scott ended up pounding Shawn Thornton into submission when the Sabres played the Bruins, while youngsters Mark Fraser and Lane MacDermid split a pair of bouts in that Toronto-Boston showdown.

But it’s the threat of Lucic that looms large, hence his influence. Here’s a player who has scored 30 goals in a season and broken the 60-point mark in his past two campaigns. He’s on the power play and the B’s top line. Simply put, he can’t be ignored. As much as Boston fans love scrappers Thornton and Gregory Campbell, they’re fourth-liners – effective for energy and penalty killing, respectively, but fourth-liners nonetheless.

Left unchecked, Lucic is going to run around for 17 minutes a game, causing havoc, upsetting apple carts and maybe scoring a dagger goal. And is there anything worse than the opposing player you hate most scoring on your team?

According to hockeyfights.com, the NHL is on pace for the most tilts per game since 2001-02, with 0.65. For years now, there has been speculation fighting would die out or be legislated out. Clearly that’s not the case right now.

Whatever it may be, other teams got tougher because of it. So it's a good thing for the league.

The other day I was thinking about what a great all around player Lucic is.... it got me thinking about who it was that the Sabres picked ahead of him in the draft that year.

Dennis Persson 1st rd

Jhonas Enroth 4 spots before Lucic

Great picks Darcy.

I think I told you this before but the funny thing is even the Bruins showed only minor interest in Lucic prior to the draft. He received the most interest from teams like Nashville, New Jersey and Los Angeles.

I really like milan lucic. What bugs me is the whole vancouver giant team lucic was a part of was awesome. All these great players right in the vancouver canucks backyard and they didnt even bother fishing there... Instead they were looking overseas for the next euro star.

Every team pretty much had a chance to draft this guy. The nhl needs more players like looch, who do a bit of everything.

Looch running over Miller last season directly led to the Sabres adding a real HW, and trading Roy for Otter.

The guy is a beast, and I have much respect for him. I prefer guys like him, Clowe and Simmonds any day (not comparing them all, but players of their ilk).

Lucic is currently the perfect example of what a power forward should be. I can't even think of anyone who comes close except for Clowe.

Thinking about Jack's post, made me look who we took before Lucic.

A lot of Canucks fans wonder the same thing. I don't understand it myself. The Canucks usually have a scout watching plenty of Giants games (Ron Delorme) but for whatever reason they seem to avoid picking guys in their own backyard.

The funny thing is most scouts were hesitant to draft Lucic because he wasn't a good enough skater. I always thought that reasoning was dumb because he was solid in just about every other aspect of the game. It was clear skating wasn't his strong suit but typically that isn't going to be for his type of player. Common sense would tell you his skating would improve with time and a little work. A lot of scouts dropped the ball on this particular instance.

I remember when the Bruins drafted Looch, he was listed at 202 pounds. The draft writeup mentioned the "shift" he had in the BC minors. I dont think anyone envisioned at the time 30+ goals. The worse thing early on before Looch made the B's was the constant Neely comparisons. Great 52nd pick overall I'd say.

It's hard to not like Lucic even if he does play for the Bruins.

That should be one of the main reasons he's liked.

So I wonder is he more like cam neely or say wendel clark ?
The media is now starting to compare players potential to "be like a milan lucic one day" take zack kassian. Cbc is claiming the comparision.

I totally wish milan was drafted by vancouver, being from vancouver. It made sense to me.

Not to take anything a way from Lucic, but he should never ever be mentioned in the same sentence as Clark, or Neely. CBC needs to pull their head out of their ass.
