Leafs Tickets : Is hottest ticket in town cooling off?

The legendary willingness of Leafs-loving Torontonians to dish out mortgage-payment-like sums to witness a perennial loser may have reached its breaking point.

Tickets to Maple Leafs games are being sold for unprecedented low prices on the open market – in what ticket brokers and resellers say is an early sign of a backlash against the club's league-topping ticket prices and basement-dwelling performance.

For the first time ticket sellers can remember, Leafs tickets with face values of $100 to $300 each are routinely selling for as little as half that amount.

"In the past, they always said it didn't matter what the Leafs produced on the ice because people will still pay top dollar," said Shawn Brookes, director of operations with FanXchange, a website that connects buyers with sellers. "This is the first time I've seen customers finally getting fed up with these astronomical prices."

Imagine that, only took the worst jump off the gate in 17 years to make them come close to paying reasonable ticket prices. I think that's a testament to how deep their fan base runs.

At $50-100 bucks with the product they are currently putting on the ice they are still grossly over priced !!!!

I would pay $30-60 bucks but no more and it would have to be for the Bruins or Flyer's just to make the hour and a half drive to watch a game worth while ..

The decline in interest was happening before the season even started. A ticket rep told me they were "shocked" by how many people didn't renew their tickets.

As a fight fan, they would be a bargain at any price!

I'd rather see my team lose, but win 3 good scraps than win in a fightless game... but that's just me....

They had no problem when they lost AND didn't fight filling the place at ridiculous prices, what're they , anti-fighting?

I know were you are coming from , but if I just went to hockey games for the fights I would use my money for MMA and not season tickets for hockey , I love a good hockey fight as long as it comes in a hard fought low scoring hard hitting "HOCKEY GAME" , not one of the I went to the fights and a hockey game broke out type games , thats OK once in a while but not every night , I played the game , had my share of altercations , loved it but the speed and excitement of scoring that big goal was the thing that got my adrenaline up more then any hockey fight I was ever involved in ...

Christ ... another one ?

If you want to lace 'em up in the geriatric league to score that big goal and jumpstart the pacemaker more power to you, but as a spectator and hockeyfight fan I'll take a T2T scrap over watching Crosby, Malkin or OV score a goal any day.

Sorry to break out the old "this is hockeyFIGHTS.com", but here it goes.... try bthis... after you witness your next heart-pumping goal - start a thread about it and see where it goes.

There was a time when there was a happy medium between the rough stuff and the skill game ... that time has passed, and as a hockeyfight fan I wish it was back.

gee-bus, if the leafs keep playing this bad, they may turn off enough people from hockey,

there's no demand for a second team in southern ontario

When you haven't won a cup since 67, watching a guy named Orr and Rosehill fight every now and then isn't going to exactly make you jump for joy.

Well watching a guy named Sundin,Blake ... and yes- even Tucker fail to make the playoffs and barely fight while making your team the butt of jokes shouldn't make you jump for joy either. The end result is the same, but getting there is a lot more entertaining.

I dont think they were jumping for joy even then. I think that right now, it's just finally caught on to them that certain things need to change before they can move on to hopefully something better. If they can finally compete, all the while playing a skill and tough game, you've got the best of all worlds.

But tbh, I think they just want to know that they're finally going to go and see a team that can bring TO a championship. Because I dont see TO settling for less, this isn't Nashville.

Yeah settling for less, Nashville has made the playoffs 3 of the last 4 years. The Leaves 0 times in that span.

I was using Nahsville's fanbase as an example of a city in which the pressure on the team to succeed isn't nearly as great.
