was great to see the fan of yesteryear stop him on the street and tell him that the Habs could sure use him these days.

Nilan looks absolutely terrible. Those years of hard living have really taken a toll on him. He has this kind of junkie face and thin, gaunt appearance. A shame, he was a great enforcer and i hated his guts, but really came to like and appreciate him after his playing days were over. Best of luck in the future, knuckles.

Ex-NHL tough guy Chris Nilan opens up about painful recovery from drug addiction

Quote:
TORONTO — Twenty years on from the NHL, Chris Nilan still feels the pain.

"I deal with arthritis every day. I need a new right knee. My left ankle's a mess," said the 54-year-old former tough guy who struggled with addiction after hockey. "You know, I deal with it. I deal with it in a different way -- through therapy.

"I use a lot more ice than when I used when I was in the middle of my addiction," he added with a chuckle.

An anti-inflammatory helps. So does a high pain threshold.

"I was always able to suck it up. It's not fun to have to suck it up," Nilan said of his hockey-playing days. "Today I suck it up a bit. Certain days I have to deal with it, there's not a whole lot else I can do. And that's OK with me today."

Pain medication helped in the past -- "big time." But soon the hard man known as Knuckles couldn't live without them.

I finally got around to watching this and while we all know the Nilan story these days and that's what it's built around; amazing amazing amazing. Really enjoyed it. Had it going with the Kings game on mute in the background tonight and Clifford and Murray went right during a fight montage and I had to scramble to pause it. Haha.

Some highlights for me were some guy that runs some ****ty website showing up, Twist's commentary on things, a certain city's mayor threatening to file legal charges on another certain city's player haha, the candid talk with McSorely and Brashear (separately) on the incident*, and so on and so on. Just a fun film for fans of the fights. And I hardly consider myself a historian like most of the guys on here. I'm a (not so) young buck that didn't get in to the sport and fighting until my later years so hey, some of this might be recycled stuff, but I sure enjoyed it.

I would recommend it most definitely.

*always had a hard time liking McSorely even as a Kings fan because of the Brashear incident and McSorely getting the chance to defend himself sure didn't help my opinion.

Finally got my copy today and just got done watching it. I won't say too much and spoil it for those that haven't seen it yet. It's absolutely great and deserves all the accolades that it has been getting

I found it interesting especially the bits that were with Twist and Probert but I couldn't help but be annoyed by Nilan. Guy came over as an arrogant self centered puffed up prick who thought everyone should do it his way.
