This potential documentary/film is a comprehensive, first of its kind & will shed a light on the inside story of the enforcer role & the gentelman that perform the most honorable job in all of sports.

Producer,Adam Scorgi ,has been working dilligently on this project for two years now.

here it is.

Kelowna hockey fans have had no shortage of tough guys to cheer for over the years.

Kelowna’s Glen Cochrane is a legendary scrapper, while Rockets alumni Scott Parker had close to 300 penalty minutes twice with Kelowna before plying his trade in the NHL.

Now a Kelowna filmmaker is hoping to delve deeper into the world of hockey tough guys with a planned documentary called Ice Guardians.

They better release it... how could they cover up there history? They already try to make the game today like disney on ice, The least they can do is release the footage from the past.

If they do get the footage this documentary would be awesome no doubt.

Not going to be easy...

Safe to say we can all appreciate what this Doc movie producer (adam) is trying to do, but it will not come without a fight from the NHL front offices. Yes, he can get some decent footage from his personal interviews, but he HAS to have the consent from the NHL to get players to share thier stories. Hope he gets his job done, and we can all see his documentary. Should be a nice viewing. Good luck, Homeslice, and again, let's hope he can do what others have failed to do.

After last weeks games this could be an uphill battle for him to get The approval he needs. Hope he can manage to make it happen though, there are plenty of guys right in this province alone that could tell some dandy stories for him.

Remember the NHL put out the Honor and Courage: Tough Guys of the NHL DVD. I believe it was part of NHL films correct?

It covered Jim Mckenzie, Lappy, Eric Cairns, and Darren McCarty and had footage and interviews with them concerning fighting.

So although it may be a little tougher with it being an outside guy asking for the footage, and the recent events, I don't think the league would be completely opposed to it.

Impressive!

WOW...i just had the privlege of watching the demo/sizzle reel of this project & it really impressed the hell out of me.

This goes right to the core of the enforcer craft that drives right into the mindset, emotions, responsibilities & struggles involved in performing the most misunderstood job in sports.

Touches on their dislike of the term "goon" to the proper terminology of enforcer....which confirmed what i`ve always deemed as a deragatory term & why i never purchased or read the book "Goon".

It is a story that needs to be told,as Fotiu stated in closing, but more importantly told & conveyed accurately by the gentlemen that performed this unique & honorable job in a tasteful manner.....& i believe that Mr. Scorgie & crew have done just that.

here are some excerpts from IG.......addressing the psychological part of the game.

Clark Gillies: "we`re playing the flyers in the stanly cup finals....i`d wake up soaked and wet with the sheets tied in knots...i`d already had 4 fights in my dreams".

Clark Gillies:"if they take a cheap shot at one of you players...they HAVE to know that there is a HUGE price to pay".

Konopka: "I`ve had 500 stitches in my face from playing & only about 40 are from fighting".

discussing the term goon:

Gillies: "the goon label is really an insult".

Fotiu:" i don`t even know what it means or what it has to do with...i know i wasn`t a goon".

They are Goons

According the American Heritage Dictionary, among others, there are two general meanings for the word "goon." The first meaning is without a doubt what Nick Fotiu was, despite what he would like to think, though I would not consider Clark Gillies a goon, as he was far too talented a player.

NOUN:
Slang
1. A thug hired to intimidate or harm opponents.
2. A stupid or oafish person.

These definitions do not go together. It's kind of like the dual meanings of the word "gay."

If a guy like Wayne Van Dorp needs to go by the term "enforcer" to make himself feel better about himself, great. I do it all the time. I'm a garbage man but I prefer to be called a sanitation engineer.

Blasphemy!!!

you know not what you speak...these are professional athletes that have dedicated the majority of their lives to the game of hockey & made to the highest possible level thru sacrifice & determination.....& on top of that ,they have developed the invaluable/honorable role of policemen/enforcers that require the skill & ability to fight on skates on a moments notice, which is no small task.

words can`t describe what Fotiu did for the rangers vs a team like philly in the late `70`s....the art of intimidation alone is just that....art!
Fotiu was a relentless banger that made the most intimidating team in hockey think twice by mearly stepping on the ice....these are not guys pulled off the street but professionals that represent integrity & honor that no longer exists in todays neutered game.......the deragatory term of "goon" does not apply here,palle....time for you to hit the bricks & get some education before you use terms that you need websters to define for you!

Goon

Your melodrama gave me a chuckle. Waxing longingly about Nicky, that was a good touch. I'll show him your post, I think he'll get a kick out of it, too.

Hey, by the by, how do I get that education? Give me some tips about "hitting the bricks" like you've done.

Are there any news on this one?
I've seen the demo a couple of months ago on vimeo and don't know how many times I've watched it since. Unfortunately I haven't heard any news since then, as well.

A lot of broadcast, copyright, and other legal approval hoops to jump thru to get this approved, I'm sure.
