Goons on parade: Cote and Laraque

"....The impact of fighting can be positive in a lot of ways," said Keith Jones, a former Flyer who is a studio analyst for Versus. "And I don't think it really matters who wins. It can change the momentum of a game or even a series. And fighting can go a long way in boosting your teammates. The crowds love it, and the energy they get from it can be transferred to the players."

".....If I get in the playoffs, it's not going to be about me going after Georges Laraque or him coming after me," Cote said. "I can do more than that to benefit my team by being a physical presence and checking, wearing out their [defensemen] and just keeping things honest. It doesn't mean we have to fight right off the bat for no reason. That's not what the playoffs are all about. You deal with things as they come. It's a different game in the playoffs. You have to be responsible and disciplined. And they've got a killer power play.

"If something needs to be taken care of, it kind of works itself out. That's the business."

Nice. I just get the feeling Cote will be scratched. Stevens is in that mindset right now.

Great quotes by Jonesy. I am still surprised that the Flyers did next to nothing to Kosty. But, I understand its the playoffs and its a different game then it was 5 or 6 years ago. I don't like it, but I understand.

I hope Cote gets dressed at least for half the series, it would be nice to see Laraque and him go.

Id like to see Cote in there just to add some roughness to the games and make them more entertaining to watch. I have a feeling that Stevens will have Cote scratched though.

the only way i see cote dressing is if 1) pens, namely rutuu and bgl, take runs at the stars/biron or 2) if the flyers go down 2-0, i could see stevens dressing cote at home to give the team and crowd a spark

Nice find Cairns, i was 20 seconds away from posting this myself.

Ruutu was giving it to Briere the past couple of games, and actually injured him with a big hit, and Jarkko will continue to get to Briere, so it would be nice for a message to be sent to Ruutu early in this series, so he may think twice about bullying around little danny.

Hopefully Stevens remembers this or Briere reminds him.

Dressing Cote will have ZERO effect on Ruutu being all over Briere. Especially when he knows BGL is in the line-up.

i 2nd that. also i would take laraque in a fight between them. asham smoked cote during the year and laraque is more cote's size and weight class. laraque on points over cote if they fight.

True, he's protected by Bettman anyway. I wonder how bettman doesn't put 2 and 2 together and see that the instigator rule protects the cheap shots and hurts his "superstars"

Trust me I think its pathetic. Years ago (not even that long ago) just the fact of having Cote in the line-up would deter Ruutu from his bullsh!t, even if BGL was in the line-up.

Bettmans new NHL has created pieces of trash like Avery and Ruutu whose actions go unaccounted for because they are protected by and distustingly pussified new rulebook.

That fight has absolutely nothing to do with this series anyway but still we all know that it wasn't 1 to 12 in that fight and Asham did put Cote on his ass in that fight.

Even though Avery and Ruutu or even guys like Steve Ott, whose actions may piss you off, they still are better then quite a few players in the NHL.
