Godard expected to stay with champs

Quote:
Rumors that Pittsburgh might trade former Islanders enforcer Eric Godard are just that. Michael Wulkan, Godard's agent, said the club assured him today that Goadard isn't going anywhere, and Penguins coach Dan Bylsma called Godard directly yesterday to tell him he remains in their plans.

"We have heard there is absolutely no truth to that rumor," Wulkan said.

Godard was available last summer as a free agent and signed a three-year deal with the Pens. He received no offer from the Islanders. Not only did Godard share in the Penguins' Stanley Cup victory, but he just bought a home in Pittsburgh, where he hopes to remain.

The Penguins signed tough guy Mike Rupp yesterday, but referring to Philadelphia's recent trade for Chris Pronger, Wulkan said, "The Flyers are loading up. Pittsburgh won't go with just Mike Rupp."

That's just the way it's going to go."

Regardless of what this guy thinks, the Penguins won't keep Godard around just because the Flyers signed Pronger. It's the auxiliary guys they have to worry about (Cote, Asham, Carcillo, Laperriere, etc).

I'm hoping that Ray Shero is bright enough to know that having both Godard and Rupp are an asset to the team and not a liability. Shero's track record proves that he knows what he's doing so I have faith that he'll do the right thing.

I'm still a little skeptical, but I'm happy to read this nonetheless. Having Rupp and Godard available when the Thugs in Prison Orange come calling makes me feel a hell of a lot better. They will be a pretty damn good 1-2 punch.

I really hope Godard stays in the Burgh. The Pens/Flyers rivarly should be great next season if they Pens play both Godard and Rupp.

Just be happy that you still have Fritz and Rechlicz. Do you know how many teams are enforcerless?

Fritz is a UFA and gone.

I love Rechlicz but Godard is my favorite enforcer.

I don't know, gone meaning he won't be re-signed by the Isles.

If he wasn't such a sh*tty skater he would get more time in the NHL. But he skates worse then Hal Gill.

Yeah, it was brutal to watch him skate. He is a beast with the gloves off though.

The 4th line right now would be Rupp/Adams/Godard. Makes me tingly all over just thinking about it.

That would be a good line to use against Philly. Cote-Asham/Lappy-Carcillo

When healthy, they should use Bissonnette-Rupp-Godard
