It's too bad, but the guy had the chance to live his dream and made a boatload of money (if he is half way smart he'll be set for life) so quite frankly my sympathy is very limited.
we should wash your mouth out with soap. i wouldnt call Orr non nhl calibre and a liability. no more than any other 4th liner on any team.

Are you kidding me? I think just about about everybody on this site likes Orr, or at least respects what he brings to the table, but this is bullshit.

The sentence that said "no more than any other 4th liner" was a little much, but when Orr played for Renney in New York he was regularly on the ice in the last couple minutes of a game to protect a one goal lead. He was no liability. He was also a better skater than people think, at least better than those that didn't watch him play but made up their minds based on stereotypes. He could get in on the forecheck and crush defenders. Combine those facts with his toughness and he was an asset, not a liability.

That's the difference. New York developed him into a serviceable 4th liner. The Leafs only saw that he could fight, so they signed him for that reason and that reason only. They never worked on his other skills. So 3 years later they (Ron Wilson) found Joey Crabb to be more useful. Him working on trimming down and working on his skating is a good sign.

That was in New York. I haven't been able to watch a lot of leafs games over the last couple years but from what I've seen he seems like a shell of his former self. He's slower, skating seems to have dipped and his chin is very suspect now. He's about one more knockout away from being a potato. Hopefully the Marlies coach is right and we see a rejuvenated Colton Orr at training camp, but I'm not holding my breath.

Yeah, it was a while ago. I was just saying he has it in him. I just hope that he gets the same kind of role and proves he could do it again.

The KO problem is a concern for sure. Being a huge Orr fan I don't enjoy his fights as much as I used to because I just want him to make it out of the fight in one piece. Hopefully the time off helped hi out some. I don't think you will see many unnecessary fights off the face off if he plays but he did say he will protect his teammates.

Of course you won't. He couldn't play in a full NHL season, and yet people think he will make an NHL appearance in a shortend season...yeah right. You'll never see Orr in an NHL again.

The end point of the article is the minor league coach saying he thinks Orr can contribute in the NHL. They also have a new coach and combined with Orr supposedly getting in better shape, last year is irrelevant. The division the Leafs play in has beefened up to try and match the physicality of Boston.
There is no reason we can't hope for the best.

I don't think the Leafs have a choice, use Orr against certain teams or get physically steamrolled.

My post came off bit negative. I had a few in me so I was letting my Leafs hatred carry over to Orr. We can hope for the best, I'd like to see him get in some games.
