Colton Orr attempting return to Leafs

Quote:
TORONTO – He was almost unrecognizable stalking the ice for the Toronto Marlies late last year. Still sporting the familiar #28, Colton Orr was in the midst of a transformation, a transformation desperately required of a player whose stock in the NHL had plummeted, a fighter whose career hung in the balance.

"Even though it was probably a great disappointment for him to be sent to the American League, it was almost a necessary thing to happen for him because it let us basically pull down that reset button for 10 seconds and this hockey player restarted himself and a new guy popped out," Marlies head coach Dallas Eakins told TSN.ca.

His hair now trim and proper, his body and game redefined, Orr is attempting a return to the Maple Leafs this season.

Sounds like Orr has put himself in a position to make da leafs. Lets hope so because when he's on and healthy he's one of the best. His right is the Closest to Kocur as I've ever seen.

Good read. Love to see a rejuvenated Orr back in the show!

Hopefully if he's been training all this time he'll be in a lot better shape than most of these guys.

I think he's got a really good chance.

I mean with being such a powerful skater and a real knack for the puck he'd be a no brainer don't you think?

My point? The guy isn't an NHL calibre player and it's a fact. The league has destroyed his position. At this stage of the game he's a liability, I wish it wasn't the case but it's not my fault the game has changed for the worse.

It's too bad, but the guy had the chance to live his dream and made a boatload of money (if he is half way smart he'll be set for life) so quite frankly my sympathy is very limited.

I appreciate the intelligent reply.

It's just my opinion. I don't feel bad for most hockey players when they can't play especially when they've had a chance to live their dream.

Most hockey players were fairly priviledged to begin with. Hockey is not a cheap game to play.

Fair points but I'm not so sure the position is totally gone. Orr was a pretty effective player while playing for the rangers on their fourth line. He lost weight and really has concentrated on his skating and leg strength since his demotion last year. With guys like Carkner, Scott , parros, boll, Shelley,Lucic, Thornton ,engelland still around Orr may get a real shot at staying. I sure hope so!!!

Gotta root for Colton Orr! I suspect 25-30/48 games for him. Carlyle's still the coach.
