2010 Draft Coming to LA!

from the LA Kings Insider:

Draft coming to L.A.

Posted by Rich Hammond on 26 October 2009, 6:52 pm

It won’t be announced by the league until early December, but Kings officials have been told that Los Angeles will host the NHL Entry Draft next June. It’s still to be determined whether the event will be held at Staples Center or Nokia Center, but the dates will be June 25-26. By all accounts, it will be the same format, with the first round on Friday night and the rest on Saturday. Give credit to Kyle Woodlief of the Red Line Report scouting newsletter for first mentioning this…

Excellent move by the NHL to get the Draft in a major American sports market. The league has a track record of going Canadian and I think they should have the draft in one of the big 3 (New York, LA, Chicago). I think the public and media attention on something positive about hockey, for a change, would be good for NHL.

These are the last 15 NHL Draft locations, starting with 1995 and ending last year: Edmonton, St Louis, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, Boston, Calgary, Sunrise (Miami), Toronto, Nashville, Raleigh, Ottawa (first draft after the lockout, held embarassingly in a ballroom at the Westin Hotel), Vancouver, Columbus, Ottawa, and Montreal. Aside from Boston, none of those cities can be classified as a major American market (Sunrise-Miami maybe, but they don't care about hockey down there).

Hopefully this turns out to be true. Maybe Kopitar with his emo black eyes and black clothes can pull an Ovechkin and announce the Kings' pick.

Very nice choice to head out west to LA. Hopefully the Kings are relevant come playoff time, and make this an even better move.

Good for LA, but honestly your not missing much. Here is what will happen:

- Cheers for the Kings pick
- Boos for the Ducks pick
- Cheers/boos for the Leafs pick (if they have one)
- Mundane congratulations to the Stanley Cup winner and runner up
- Fans sitting around bored out of their minds, and hearing about players they have never heard about (its in LA, lets be honest)

Bottom line.....spend your day cleaning your garage instead
