Sad.
Apparently he had roots in Ottawa, so that factored into it, and he may very well have taken a paycut to get somewhere where he can actually play, and on a one way contract no less. That having been said, I'm surprised that NY didn't want him back.

Perfect.

Konopka loves Phaneuf.

He's always playing with his face, tugging at his jersey, he gives him little hacks with his stick now and then, wiggles his mitts at em', he's always saying something to him.

Hopefully, Orr is healthy this year, I know he's playful. How is Phaneuf supposed to play with Konopka coming to say hello, every time he's on the ice?

****in comic sans, really? Are you 8?

Also, Lessard played more than 1/4 of the season in Ottawa, why wouldn't he be back this year?

And why the **** wouldn't Carkner be dressed? Are you telling me the Sens have the ability to put out the toughest line in the NHL Neil-Konopka-Lessard, and they're gonna roll with Neil-Konopka as their #1 and 2 instead?

**** that.

I also think a Neil trade is possible. I am not trying to be a killjoy here, this is just the direction I expect them to go.
I think on defense you can add David Rundblad too. IMO that kid is ready for the NHL and should be ahead of Carkner in the depth chart too.

LOL this is literally the last place on the web I expected to see typeface critiques.

As far as Carkner, they've got a bunch of young defencemen coming up, he's going to have to fight for his job in camp. On the other hand injuries are always a factor so he could easily spend half the season up in the big club.

In a perfect world they'd trade Kuba which would give Carkner a spot. Also, in my perfect world they'd keep all this toughness for a couple of rebuilding seasons and sell tickets based on tough play instead of, you know, scoring goals and winning games. Kind of a bizzarro-world mirror of the Pizza Line Senators with President's Trophies and no team toughness.

Too bad I'm not management or on the coaching staff.

Also, I can't believe they got Konopka for so little money. I say if he fits in at all they should try to get him signed midseason for another year or 3.

Great pick-up by Sens, now its a wait and see. I think Neil stays and Carkner is the traded to the Wings

They called him up after they went on a like twelve game slide, and their season was over before the trade deadline. Not exactly the same scenario come September...

Really nothing to dislike about signing Konopka.

You are probably right. Gryba, Borowiecki and Wiercioch may even be ahead of Carkner at this point. His future hinges on whether they can find a sucker to take Kuba, and how many rookies they are comfortable with in the lineup simultaneously. I do not like his chances.
