Wild Sign Zenon Konopka and Torrey Mitchell

SAINT PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Minnesota Wild General Manager Chuck Fletcher today announced the National Hockey League (NHL) club has signed free-agent C Zenon Konopka (ZEH-nohn kuh-NOHP-kah) to a two-year contract, and C Torrey Mitchell to a three-year contract.

Zonopka, 31 (1/2/81), tallied five points (3-2=5) and ranked third in the NHL with 193 penalty minutes for the Ottawa Senators in 2011-12. He also won 58.9% of his faceoffs, ranking fifth in the NHL amongst players with 250 or more faceoffs. The 6-foot, 209-pound native of Niagara on the Lake, Ont., has skated 250 NHL games with Anaheim, Columbus, Tampa Bay, the New York Islanders and Ottawa, totaling 27 points (11-16=27) and 877 PIM. He led the NHL with 307 PIM in 2010-11 and 265 in 2009-10. Kenopka was a member of the Ottawa 67’s Memorial Cup-winning team in 1999. He scored his first career NHL goal against the Wild and Manny Fernandez on Nov. 6, 2005.

Mitchell, 27 (1/30/85), notched 19 points (9-10=19) in 76 games with the San Jose Sharks in the 2011-12 campaign. He has skated 280 games in four seasons with the Sharks, totaling 73 points (30-43=73). Mitchell has seen action in 55 playoff games with San Jose, accruing 11 points (2-9=11) over five post-seasons. The 5-foot-11, 190-pound native of Greenfield Park, Quebec, was San Jose’s fourth-round pick (No. 126 overall) in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. He played collegiately at the University of Vermont.

The journey man continues he's journey, good move for the wild, solid 4th liner, tough middleweight and a very good face off guy. Winner.

Kassian and Konopka is a nice 1-2 punch for today's standard.

Dont worry Sens fans for loosing both Matt and Zenon. You still have Karlsson

First it was Orr's sparring partner to Colorado. Now it's Brown's sparring partner to Minny. The Northeast is going to be boring this year.

With how many high end youngsters the Wild will have in their lineup this year and next, upgrading toughness was a must. Great pick up by the Wild.
