Wild Sign Riley Emmerson

SAINT PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Minnesota Wild President and General Manager Doug Risebrough today announced the National Hockey League (NHL) club has signed D Riley Emmerson to a contract.

Emmerson, 20 (2/7/86), collected two points (1-1=2) and 109 penalty minutes (PIM) in 66 games with the Tri-City Americans of the Western Hockey League (WHL) last season and skated in two playoff contests with the Americans. The Burnaby, British Columbia-native is the tallest player in organization history at 6-foot-8 and weighs 230 pounds. The Wild selected Emmerson in the seventh round (199th overall) of the 2005 Entry Draft.

With the blue line being ripped apart, hopefully Big E gets some PT for the Wild and makes the club. He'll be a welcome change from our typical ***** defensemen that we have.

Emmerson is not even close to being ready for the NHL.

Gotta love all the new signings by the Wild, in terms of getting some offense. But jeez, other than Boogaard, what do we have going for toughness? What's gonna happen when Boogie is scratched (which will be often)? Azzwhoopins?

I hope the coming season doesn't remind me of the Bobby Smith days of the North Stars.

Branko will provide the "grind" aspect with Boogaard shelved. Veilleux and Carney will provide some form of grit as well. I still would have wanted a more physical forward, but Parrish and Branko will be a couple welcome additions.

Wanvig will likely be in Houston for now on. With Branko coming up, and Veilleux having more offensive upside, Wanny's already slim chances are all but gone already. The coaching staff lost patience with him last year due to his inability to score.

We do have Joey T in the A, but his chances of coming up are like the chances of the Red Wings getting an enforcer...
