Wild Re-Sign Manny Fernandez

SAINT PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Minnesota Wild President and General Manager Doug Risebrough announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has re-signed goalie Manny Fernandez to a multi-year contract.

“The Wild’s commitment to Manny and his commitment to the team are based upon his play this season and his performance with the Wild ever since he started the first home game in team history on October 11, 2000,” Risebrough said. “We see this as a step that will continue to improve our team and help take us to the next level.”

Fernandez, 31 (8/27/74), is in the midst of his most productive NHL season, establishing a new career-best for wins in a season with 23 and ranking among the league leaders in goals-against-average and save percentage. Fernandez entered Friday’s games ranked third in the league with a .924 save percentage and fifth with a 2.20 GAA.

Fernandez was originally acquired by the Wild along with Brad Lukowich from the Dallas Stars in exchange for a third round selection in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft and a fourth round selection in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. He was selected by Quebec in the third round (52nd overall) of the 1992 NHL Entry Draft.

Great thing to get Manny's contract done up before the end of the year. Now all thats left is to decide whether or not Rolie goes or not.

i suspect Roloson goes, i'm not sure who the Wild have to goaltend beyond Roloson and Fernandez, but i'm pretty sure they have some sort of prospect who can back up Fernandez until he overtakes him.

checking the Wild site.. i'm guessing Harding gets called up to the big show should Roloson be dealt.

The wild probably aren't going to want to pay that much money for a back-up when they most likley do have a good prospect or they can get a decent goaltender in free-agency

There is no way that Roloson re-signs with Minnesota now.

They will trade him for something by the deadline.

Josh Harding is supposedly a pretty solid goalie down in Houston, but i don't really know too much about him.

The thing that sucks for Roloson is that last NHL season, he would have been the guy to get re-signed and Fernandez would have been gone, and this season it's the other way around.

Fernandez is enjoying the best season of his career with a 23-11-0 record to go along with a fine 2.19 GAA and .924 save percentage. With the 31-year-old locked up long-term, expect Minnesota to trade Dwayne Roloson in the next week.

Josh Harding:

Wins: 26
Losses: 7
Shut outs: 2
Save %: .922
GAA: 2.44

Without a doubt it would have been the other way around with Rolie and Manny had there been a season last year. Hopefully this season is a deffinate good sign of things to come for Manny.

I always liked manny, I hated him in the 2003 playoffs cause he just killed the avs in that series.
