Wild place Mark Parrish on waivers

Quote:
According to an NHL source, the Wild has placed Bloomington-born, Plymouth resident Mark Parrish on waivers.

If he clears the 24-hour waivers, it is likely he will be bought out of the remaining three years of his contract and will become a free agent.

Parrish spent much of his two seasons with his hometown Wild in Jacques Lemaire’s doghouse.

Lemaire just didn't like the guy... not sure why or what about him. But he rarely got time on a top line, and was always on the 4th line, getting Boogaard'esk minutes. Need to clear up some cap space I guess, and it opens the door to Colton Gillies coming up, or Cal Clutterbuck...

If Lemaire didn't like him, or use him as he should have been used, my guess would be his lack of attention to defense. But he puts up decent numbers for limited ice time, and was a plus, so maybe something about him personally irks him.

Thats what I think...

Teammates loved him, and he was a guy that didn't bitch to the media about getting goon type minutes, especially when he was removed from the PP for Fridge or Voros.

He was oft-injured, so maybe that played into Lemaire thinking he took his time coming back from injuries? Maybe the lack of attention to defensive details? With Lemaire, nobody knows what goes in that combed over melon...

He has three years left on his contract? Yikes. If the Wild do buy him out, thats going to be a healthy little hit against their cap for a couple seasons - they better hope someone picks him up on waivers....

I don't understand his problem either in Minnesota - guy can put up decent numbers and he's not terrible in his own end....something just isn't right there.

I don't understand why Parrish was so out of favor in Minnesota. The guy works hard and battles with the best of them in front of the net. If the Wild do end up buying him out, I think he'll attract a lot of interest from teams looking to round out their top 6 forwards.

Hope the Pens add him. I've always been a fan of Parrish and would work well on the Pens.

Parrish Clears Waivers

Quote:
As expected because of the three years left on his contract worth $8.35 million, Mark Parrish has cleared waivers. The Wild will immediately proceed with buying him out, and thus he’ll immediately become a free agent, sources say.

I’m sure teams will have interest, but waivers weren’t appealing when you know you could get him cheaper and probably for less term on a free-agent contract rather than inheriting his current contract.

As reported in today’s Strib, the Wild will buy Parrish out for two-thirds, or $5,566,667. As for that cap hit, the team can spread the cap hit over six years to lessen the pain. Instead of a $2.65 million cap hit in each of the next three years, it’ll have a $727,778 cap hit in Years 1 and 2 and a $927,778 cap hit in Years 3-6.

For this year, the Wild saves $1,922,222 against the cap, and now has a cap scaled back to $52,649,277.
