Wild Exercise Brian Rolston's 2007-08 Contract Option

SAINT PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Minnesota Wild President and General Manager Doug Risebrough today announced the National Hockey League (NHL) club has exercised forward Brian Rolston’s contract option for the 2007-08 season.

Rolston, 33 (2/21/73), established a new career-high and franchise record for points in a season with 79 (34-45=79) while skating in all 82 games during his first season with Minnesota in 2005-06. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound forward set new career-highs with 34 goals, 45 assists and a +14 rating and also led the team with 15 power play goals and five shorthanded markers. Rolston finished tied for first on the team with 20 multi-point contests and seven game-winning tallies. The Flint, Michigan-native served as team captain for the months of February and March and was named the Three Star Award Winner this season. Rolston represented Team USA at the 2006 Winter Olympics and recorded three power play goals and an assist in six contests.

He has collected 511 points (224-287=511) in 818 career NHL games in parts of 11 seasons with New Jersey, Colorado, Boston and Minnesota. The Wild signed Rolston as a free agent on July 8, 2004. He was originally selected by the Devils in the first round (11th overall) of the 1991 NHL Entry Draft.

Well that's kind of a no-brainer after the big season he had. Now they just need some offensive support for him and Gaborik.

Wow... Doug made a logical move.

This is an absolute no brainer. Jacques Lemaire and Rolsty get along incredibly well (Jersey connections), him and Gabby work amazing together on the ice, and he is one of the few guys in the locker room that speaks and speaks very well. Great move.

Rolston is a damn good player and I was disappointed when he left Boston. Hope he continues his great skills in a Wild uniform.
