Wild Acquire Marc-Andre Bergeron
SAINT PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Minnesota Wild President and General Manager Doug Risebrough today announced the National Hockey League (NHL) club has acquired defenseman Marc-Andre Bergeron (pronounced BUHR-zhuhr-ohn) from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for the Wild’s third round pick in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
“Marc-Andre is an offensively skilled defenseman who will add puck-moving ability and a good point shot to our team,” said Risebrough. Bergeron, 27 (10/13/80), split the 2007-08 NHL campaign with the New York Islanders and the Anaheim Ducks and ranked tied for sixth among League defenseman with eight power play goals. He collected 18 points (9-9=18) in 46 games with the Islanders before being traded to the Ducks for a third round pick in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft on Feb. 26, 2008. Bergeron recorded one assist in nine games with Anaheim. The 5-foot-10, 197-pound native of Trois-Rivieres, Quebec has tallied 128 points (48-80=128) including 131 penalty minutes (PIM) and 29 power play goals in 267 career NHL contests during five seasons with Edmonton, the New York Islanders and Anaheim. Bergeron appeared in his first NHL game March 11, 2003 at Calgary and recorded his first career NHL goal against Chris Osgood on March 31, 2003 at St. Louis. Have fun Jkidd! This guy is one of the worst/softest defensemen the Isles had last year, total turnover machine. Great shot, rarely hits the net with it.

That's just the way it's going to go." |

Ahhhhh, ****. I said it in Edmonton, then when he went to the Island, and then to the Ducks... the guy has a bomb, and is a decent hip checker - but thats it. Defensively, he's going to be a nothing.
I guess, the only way to look positively is that Lemaire, of all coaches, might mold him into something useful. Possible insurance move if Foster doesn't recover too well? Actual standpoint: Son of a bitch bastard. What the **** is this!? JM Liles would have been sooooo much ****ing better. Mother ****er.

You pretty much said it all. The guy has a good shot when he has a clear path to the net (within ten feet) and decent speed (which he only uses on the offense). He threw one good hit in his carreer that sent Brendan Morrow (I believe) head over heels and causing a loss-of-helmet, but other than that, he is physically weak. Oh, and he plays in his own zone like a scared boy in novice (or just like any other Frenchman). Still, the Bergeron nightmare should see him switch hands only five times this upcoming season...

However, most of his defensive decisions lead you to believe he must suffer from mild retardation... Unless they are going to use him as a PP specialist (I hate that term), I don't really know how he fits in the Minny system...

Might be an insurance policy for when/if they don't resign Brian Rolston. He will help on the power play. Not a bad depth move, they are loosing: Num-nuts, Hill, Carney and Foster will not be ready until December at the earliest. They must sign a physical D-man like Orpik or Door.

Pair him with Skoula and look out. With that kind of defense you win championships.

He has a good shot, but since when did that make you a good hockey player, let alone a good d-man. He gets exposed very easily. At least my team didnt ink him. GL to Lemaire trying to make something out of him.
