Wild Acquire Dominic Moore From Pittsburgh

SAINT PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Minnesota Wild President and General Manager Doug Risebrough today announced the National Hockey League (NHL) club has acquired center Dominic Moore from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for a third round pick in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

Moore, 26 (8/3/80), collected 15 points (6-9=15), 46 penalty minutes (PIM) and won 350 of 678 face-offs taken (.516) in 59 games with Pittsburgh this season. The 6-foot, 195-pound forward notched 18 points (9-9=18) and 28 PIM appearing in all 82 games with the New York Rangers as a rookie in 2005-06. He recorded three assists in his NHL debut with New York on Nov. 1, 2003 at Montreal. Moore played four years at Harvard University tallying 147 points (64-83=147) and 135 PIM in 128 contests finishing his collegiate career 11th on Harvard's all-time scoring list.

The Rangers selected the Thornhill, Ontario-native in the third round (95th overall) of the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. Moore was traded by the Rangers to the Nashville Predators for Adam Hall, then traded by Nashville to the Penguins along with Libor Pivko for a 2007 third round draft pick on July 19, 2006.

Wild just got softer. Harder for Boogaard to make the line up now..

I don't understand this one either. Moore was our best faceoff man (which isn't saying much since we're in last place on faceoffs by a wide margin), and his line with Ruutu and Petro has been pretty good recently. Now that leaves us with no half-decent faceoff man, which is really going to kill us, especially in the playoffs.

The Pens I guess were just making roster room, but Moore is a really good role player. Of course, Minnesota has traditionally had a system filled with guys like Moore. I didn't really know there was a need for him on the Wild.

Moore was brought to Pgh to take faceoffs and kill penalties. With the emergence of Staal this year as a PKer, Moore just doesn't get out there anymore. As for faceoffs, the Pens always suck at them and Moore,IMO, wasn't getting it done. They still need a good faceoff guy. They have one hour.

As long as I can remember, the Pens have had one good faceoff guy(Francis) and one good HW(McSorley). They got one peice(BGL), now let's see about a faceoff guy.

Haven't been to the Wild site yet, but I'm sure the home page will be spinning me dizzy about how Moore is just the guy that the Wild needed. 51 percent, big f*cking deal.

I dont understand why the Wild cant get a decent, tough, grinder type player. Im sick of these pu$$ies...

If this move gets Boogaard benched, Im gonna be pissed...

Oh yeah... thats what Dougie does...

What makes me laugh are the posts from people saying that Moore is a "clear upgrade" over Wyatt Smith because he's got 6 goals to Smith's 1 and a 51% faceoff percentage to Smith's 45, when all it does is show how useless Smith actually was/is. Even with Moore's 51, I don't think the Wild have hit 50% as a team yet.

I'm from Minnesota and this is another reason that I can't cheer for the Wild. They did a god job this off season but they are so soft that if boogy wasn't their, Detroit could could kick their a$$.

And the hard thing to swallow, is that they'll probably sit Boogs and dress both Moore and Smith down the stretch.

Let me post the difference between Derek Boogaard and Wyatt Smith, and why Smith should head down to make room for Boogs...

Notice the difference in how they forecheck?

You got that right! The day Boogaard goes, I will stop watching the wild, I would have stopped along time ago...but I love watching Boogaard even when hes not fighting. His checks are unreal sometimes, he comes out of nowhere and can actually run star players all will. For how big he is you wouldnt think he could actually check some of these faster players...but he finds a way to do it.
