Toronto Signs Mike Komisarek
Unrestricted free agent defenceman Michael Komisarek has agreed to terms on a five year contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs according to team President and General Manager Brian Burke.
“We are extremely pleased to add a player with Mike’s ability and leadership qualities to our lineup,” said Burke. “He’s a respected competitor in this league and we know that he will bring his hard-nosed approach to our team on a consistent basis.” In 66 games with Montreal last season he recorded two goals and nine assists while posting an ‘even’ rating. He led Montreal in penalty minutes with a career-high 121 while averaging 20:37 minutes of ice time. He also led Montreal with 191 hits and 207 blocked shots. Komisarek was voted to the starting lineup of the Eastern Conference for the 2009 NHL All-Star Game. During the 2007-08 season, he led all NHL defencemen, and placed second in the league, in hits with 266. In 361 career NHL games, Komisarek has 12 goals, 46 assists and 58 points with 496 minutes in penalties. The 27-year old native of West Islip, New York was originally Montreal’s first choice, 7th overall, in the 2001 Entry Draft.

Well, Burke continues to beef up. The Leafs are going to be one hell of a fun team to watch come next season, especially against the Flyers.
