COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets have assigned left wing Tom Sestito to the Syracuse Crunch, Columbus’ American Hockey League affiliate, General Manager Scott Howson announced today.

Sestito, 22, appeared in one game for the Blue Jackets against the Edmonton Oilers on November 16 and registered five penalty minutes in the game. He has collected five goals and three assists for eight points and 64 penalty minutes in 16 games with the Crunch this season. He has recorded 20-31-51 and 434 penalty minutes in 134 career AHL games. He made his NHL debut with the Blue Jackets against St. Louis on April 6, 2008 and registered 17 penalty minutes in the game.

I'm guessing this means Derek Dorsett and/or Freddy Modin and Andrew Murray are close to returning. The organization, Hitchock in particular love Sestito so I'm sure they want him playing in the AHL rather than sitting in the press box in Columbus. I thought he might get another game or two in the lineup, but with Pahlsson and Torres only missing a couple games and DMac playing so well, they didn't really have a spot for him in the lineup. As bad as the Jackets have been for the past week or so, thier fourth line of Boll-MacKenzie-Torres has been outstanding, easily thier best line lately, and Sestito doesn't fit in on the top 6.

EDIT-- I am correct. Dorsett passed all his nerological tests and rode a stationary bike for 20 minutes yesterday with no ill effects. He's expected back in the lineup next Thursday when the Jackets play the Leafs. Andrew Murray is expected back next week as well.

Also, Alexandre Picard was called up from Syracuse today.

Modine is a lost cause he`s spent more time on IR then he has on the ice they need to drop him asap so they have cap space to sign someone else at the trade deadline.
