Todd Fedoruk Bought Out By Tampa Bay

The Tampa Bay Lightning have bought out the contract of left wing Todd Fedoruk, Vice President and General Manager Steve Yzerman announced. Fedoruk had one year remaining on his contract.

“On behalf of the entire Lightning organization, I would like to thank Todd for his service both on and off the ice,” Yzerman said. “As the team heads in a different direction, we wish him the best of luck as he moves forward in his hockey career.”

Fedoruk, 6-foot-2, 232 pounds, played in 50 games with Tampa Bay last season, his first with the Lightning, recording three goals and six points with 54 penalty minutes. He averaged 7:31 in ice time per game. Fedoruk was acquired by Tampa Bay from the Phoenix Coyotes with defenseman David Hale in exchange for right wing Radim Vrbata on July 21, 2009.

A native of Redwater, Alberta, Fedoruk has played in 545 career games with the Lightning, Phoenix, the Minnesota Wild, Dallas Stars, Philadelphia Flyers and Anaheim Ducks. He has accumulated 32 career goals and 97 points with two power play goals and 1050 penalty minutes. Fedoruk also won the AHL’s Calder Cup in 2005 with the Philadelphia Phantoms.

The NHL veteran has also played in 25 Stanley Cup Playoff games with Minnesota, Anaheim and Philadelphia. He recorded a goal and two points with 54 penalty minutes.

Fedoruk, 31, was drafted by the Flyers in the seventh round, 164th overall, of the 1997 NHL Entry Draft.

54 PIMs in 50 games....wow.

I know Todd doesn't want to risk busting his face again and turning into a paperweight, but man, that kind of says it all regarding the direction his career has taken.

You have to think this is the end of the road for Fridge's NHL career....

I don't get why people act like dicks to this guy! He broke his ****ing face twice yet he still plays hockey in general, not to mention he will fight 2 or 3 times, give him a break he has been fighting all his career. Come back to minny Todd you were better then half the team, besides he was good during playoffs. I wish there were more respectable warriors like him buuuuut no, someone always gotta bust his balls. "why dont he fight, durrrrr"

hope he finds his niche he is more a man then 75 percent of all enforcers

i think its definitely time for fedoruk to retire. hes shown extraordinary courage coming back from two serious face/head injuries and still showing his willingness to defend his teammates. i hope for his sake he retires and moves on with his life with his brain and face still (somewhat) intact.

He would be the perfect enforcer for Detroit though.

I don't think anybody is busting his balls. I want him to retire because I like him and I'd like to see him be able to live a normal life when his career is over. I'm not questioning his toughness but the fact is he has taken too much damage and he can't play his game anymore.

It's not a matter of being a dick about the guy, but what's he bring exactly if he can't fight? Do you sign him and hope he hits his career high of 23 points again? It's not like Fedoruk was ever a power forward 20 goal 150 pim guy.

His time is up. He should hang them up now before he gets hurt even worse.

The Caps and their anti-fighting mindset are exactly where Fridge will probably end up.

well, it comes down to what he brings to the table, he has passion for the game and still plays despite the constant fear of a serious injury, but is it truly worth the risk? Other players have called it quits because they simply couldn't do it anymore, maybe that's the path he should take. Nobody bashes him for not fighting anymore, he just can't do much more of anything else very well either.

I personally couldn't think of a single bad thing to say about Fridge. I just think he needs to retire because of the warrior he is. The style he plays and the injuries he's taken could spell trouble if he takes the wrong kind of damage.

I wish the guy nothing but good fortune in his future endeavors.

I'm thinking this is it for Fedoruk. He's bounced around to 3 different teams the last 2 years and his numbers can't really justify a nightly spot in an NHL lineup.
