Todd Bertuzzi Signs Two-Year Extension With Red Wings

per Helen St. James of Detroit Free Press and Bertuzzi's Agent.

It's about 2.2 million per season and backloaded.

Good signing, even at 37, he provides a physical power forward touch and still has great shooting hands. Smart move by Detroit.

Love it! One of my favorite players to watch on shootouts.

Good signing, Bertuzzi at 39 still is under Red Wings' average age.

Good to hear!

He had a good physical presence in the playoffs last year. When he steps it up a notch he is very tough to play against.

For a cap-hit of 1.1m it's hard to argue against it considering himself and Datsyuk have made some great chemistry together. I'm not exactly happy about it being 2 years but I am guessing that he provides some intangible things that make him an asset even at 37+.

I like it, though I wish Bertuzzi would score more than he does. Like around 20-25 goals. But he is a great stickhandler and passer and on shootouts, he's dangerous. And this year, he's gotten a helluva lot better defensively, I think he's a plus 20. And he, Datsyuk and Franzen all seem to have great chemistry together. Good signing.

Good to know Steve Moore's bills will be paid for at least 2 more years.

DETROIT – The Red Wings re-signed veteran forward Todd Bertuzzi to a new two-year contract extension Thursday morning at Joe Louis Arena.

Bertuzzi, in his 16th NHL season, and fourth with the Wings, agreed to a two-year deal worth $2.25 million per season.

The 37-year-old Bertuzzi has had a career rebirth, of sort, with the Wings, finding a home on the team’s top forward line along with Pavel Datsyuk and Johan Franzen. Bertuzzi has 12 goals and 29 points in 54 games this season and has become an incredible shootout threat for the team.

Great signing. Bertuzzi is part of the leadership core of this team now and as others have mentioned, a bankable shootout specialist and solid all-around player. By all accounts his teammates absolutely love him and, like many older Wings before him, he serves as a mentor to the team's future leaders in Helm and Abdelkader. I love how the Wings are always willing to offer second chances to former stars.
