Thrashers Sign Rich Peverley to Multiple-Year Contract Extension

The Atlanta Thrashers have signed forward Rich Peverley to a multiple-year contract extension, according to Executive Vice President and General Manager Don Waddell.

Peverley, 27, has recorded seven points (four goals, three assists) in five games with the Thrashers this season, ranking second on the team in points and goals. He leads the team in power play goals (3) and game-winning goals (2) and is tied for the team lead in plus/minus-rating (plus-3).

The 6-0, 200-pound center, who was claimed by Atlanta off waivers from Nashville on Jan. 10, 2009, has tallied 42 points (17 goals, 25 assists) in 44 games with the Thrashers, including seven game-winning goals. Originally signed by Nashville as a free agent on Jan. 17, 2007, he has recorded 62 points (24 goals, 39 assists) in 117 career NHL games with Atlanta and Nashville. He has also appeared in six playoff games for the Predators, earning two assists.

Peverley has also recorded 168 points (56 goals, 112 assists) in 177 career games in the American Hockey League with Milwaukee and Portland, adding 73 points (34 goals, 39 assists) in 80 ECHL games with South Carolina and Reading.

Prior to his professional career, the Guelph, Ontario, native spent four seasons at St. Lawrence University (ECAC) from 2000-04. He appeared in 138 career games with the Saints, totaling 117 points (44 goals, 73 assists).

Not a bad deal at all. He's been great for them since going there. He may not keep it up, but even if he slows down a little, 1.3 per isn't a bad price to pay.
