Thrashers Recall Michael Garnett; Activate Garnet Exelby from IR

The Atlanta Thrashers have recalled goaltender Michael Garnett from Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League and activated defenseman Garnet Exelby from Injured Reserve, according to Executive Vice President and General Manager Don Waddell. The team’s active roster now stands at 23, with two players on Injured Reserve.

Garnett, 22, ranked second among Wolves goaltenders with a 2.86 goals-against average, .911 save percentage, 11 victories and 24 games in 2004-05. He has spent the past three seasons in the Thrashers organization, mostly with Chicago.

The native of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan helped the Wolves advance to the 2005 Calder Cup Finals, winning both of his playoff outings. Garnett, selected in the third round, 80th overall, in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft split the 2003-04 season between Chicago and Gwinnett (ECHL).

Exelby, who has been sidelined with an injured leg since Sept. 22, was placed on Injured Reserve on Oct. 4, retroactive to the date of the injury. He appeared in three preseason games for the Thrashers.
