Thrashers Reassign Braydon Coburn to Chicago

Atlanta, GA -- The Atlanta Thrashers have reassigned defenseman Braydon Coburn to the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League, according to Executive Vice President and General Manager Don Waddell. The Thrashers active roster now stands at 22, including 13 forwards, seven defensemen and two goaltenders, with one player on Injured Reserve.

Coburn, the club's first-round draft pick, eighth overall, in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, has recorded four assists and 30 penalty minutes in 29 games with the Thrashers since being recalled on Nov. 15.

The native of Calgary, Alberta, has registered five assists and 34 penalty minutes in 38 NHL games with Atlanta.

Prior to turning pro in 2005-06, the 6-5, 220-pound defenseman spent four seasons with the Portland Winter Hawks of the Western Hockey League, serving as the team captain from 2003-05. He recorded 130 points (29 goals, 101 assists) and 483 penalty minutes in 238 games with Portland.

well knew this was coming...and I'd love to see Valabik...but it's just not gonna happen.

Bourrett is also an interesting option, as Haydar hasn't done much in his 2 games. Hartley was openly critical of him.

I thought Valabik had been playing good hockey, at least from a +/- standpoint. Oystrick is another option on defense. Thought I saw somewhere he made it to the All-Star game. Three fights so far this year, and looks like he plays a chippy game.

I'll rephrase..not gonna happen 'this year'. Coburn and Popovic are ahead of him in case of injury. Sutton is back and looks better than ever. Even McCarthy has been great on D. We have a glut at D for once, and finally seem fairly solid back there. If anything...we have trade possibilities involving some of our young D.

I meant we aren't going to call any of them up just yet, while we are making a push for the playoffs. That's why Coburn was sent down, because he needs to play, and that isn't happening with Sutton coming back.
