Thrashers Re-Sign Rylan Kaip

The Atlanta Thrashers have re-signed forward Rylan Kaip (KIPE), according to Executive Vice President and General Manager Don Waddell.

Kaip, 25, appeared in 42 games last season with the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League, recording three points (one goal, two assists). He made his professional debut on Oct. 11 at Houston, recorded his first point with an assist on Oct. 29 vs. Providence and scored his first goal on Dec. 30 at Manitoba.

The 6-1, 195-pound center played college hockey at the University of North Dakota (WCHA), where he earned 38 points (15 goals, 23 assists) and 230 penalty minutes in 143 career games. He served as the team captain during his senior year after serving as an alternate captain during his junior season. The native of Wilcox, Saskatchewan, registered the highest goal (eight) and point (15) totals of his collegiate career and tied a career-high with seven assists in 42 games during the 2007-08 campaign.

Kaip was originally selected by the Thrashers in the ninth round, 269th overall, of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.

Really good kid at UND, hasn't transferred much to the minor league ranks, but I'm hoping to see a full season out of him next year, and him making/taking the next step as a player.

That makes sense as I always thought Kaip was a hell of a PK man and a great defensive first forward.... but Kaiper also has decent hands around the net and can forecheck like a machine.

Do you know what he was hurt with?

No doubt. I'll have to get an email or two out after the weekend (hate bothering guys over a "holiday" weekend like this one) and find out what the hell was going on with'em.

Them Dub boys... as close to hockey machines as it can get.
