Thrashers Re-Sign MacKenzie, Stewart and Doell

ATLANTA -- The Atlanta Thrashers have re-signed forwards Derek MacKenzie, Karl Stewart and Kevin Doell, according to Executive Vice President and General Manager Don Waddell.

MacKenzie, 25, has appeared in 24 games with the Thrashers over three seasons, recording two assists, since being drafted by the team in the fifth round, 128th overall, in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft. In parts of five seasons with the Chicago Wolves (AHL), he has tallied 147 points (69 goals, 78 assists) in 325 games. He has also appeared in 62 playoff games, recording 25 points (16 goals, nine assist), with the Wolves and helped them capture the Calder Cup Championship in 2002.

The 5-11, 185-pound center appeared in 11 games with the Thrashers over two stints during the 2005-06 season, recording one assist. The Sudbury, Ontario native also appeared in 36 games for the Wolves last season, recording 22 points (10 goals, 12 assists) and 48 penalty minutes.

Stewart, 23, has played in 13 games for the Thrashers in parts of two seasons with the team, tallying one assist, since signing with the team as a free agent on Sept. 28, 2001. In three seasons with the Chicago Wolves from 2003-04 to 2005-06, he has recorded 106 points (48 goals, 58 assists) in 220 games. In 22 playoff games with the Wolves, he has collected 11 points (six goals, five assists).

The 5-10, 180-pound left wing appeared in eight games with the Thrashers during the 2005-06 season, tallying 15 penalty minutes. The native of Aurora, Ontario also recorded 40 points (22 goals, 18 assists) and 184 penalty minutes in 71 games with the Wolves.

Doell, 27, has appeared in 131 games with the Chicago Wolves, recording 65 points (22 goals, 43 assists) and 74 games with the Gwinnett Gladiators (ECHL), amassing 89 points (39 goals, 50 assists), in three seasons since turning professional. Doell, who signed as a free agent with the Thrashers on June 30, 2004, has appeared in one playoff game with the Wolves and 21 playoff games with the Gladiators, recording 10 points (three goals, seven assists).

The 5-11, 190-pound center recorded 51 points (17 goals, 34 assists), tying for third on the team, in 78 games with the Wolves last season.

Prior to his professional career, the Saskatoon, Saskatchewan native played four seasons of collegiate hockey for Denver (WCHA), notching 136 points (62 goals, 74 assists) in 158 games.
