Thrashers Re-Sign Forward Chris Thorburn

The Atlanta Thrashers have re-signed forward Chris Thorburn to a multiple-year contract, according to Executive Vice President and General Manager Don Waddell.

Thorburn, 26, appeared in 82 games for the Thrashers last season, recording 15 points (seven goals, eight assists), setting new career highs for games played and goals.

The 6-3, 225-pound right wing has posted 33 points (12 goals, 21 assists) and 196 penalty minutes in 155 games over two seasons with the Thrashers. In 196 career NHL contests with Buffalo, Pittsburgh and Atlanta, the Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, native has earned 39 points (15 goals, 24 assists) and 272 penalty minutes.

Prior to his NHL career, Thorburn recorded 102 points (41 goals, 61 assists) in 211 career regular season games with Rochester and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League. He also appeared in 20 Calder Cup Playoff games with Rochester, posting six points (three goals, three assists).

Originally selected by Buffalo in the second round, 50th overall, of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, Thorburn was acquired by the Thrashers from Pittsburgh in exchange for a third-round selection in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft on June 22, 2007.

Glad to see he'll be back, even though the Thrashers SB Nation blogger has used some solid tables and stats to prove that Thorburn is the team's worst forward. Maybe he'll have a better year though. I like the guy, so like I say I'm glad he'll be back.
