Thrashers Place Nik Antropov on Injured Reserve; Recall Tim Stapleton

The Atlanta Thrashers have placed forward Nik Antropov on Injured Reserve and have recalled forward Tim Stapleton from the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League, according to General Manager Rick Dudley.

Antropov, 30, has appeared in 35 games this season and has earned 18 points (seven goals, 11 assists), which includes four multiple-point games. He is tied for second on the team with four power play goals.

The 6-6, 245-pound center has recorded 389 points (163 goals, 226 assists) in 638 NHL games with Toronto (2001-02 to 2008-09), the New York Rangers (2008-09) and Thrashers (2009-10 to 2010-11).

The Ust-Kamengorsk, Kazakhstan, native is in his second season with the Thrashers and was acquired by the team as a free agent on July 2, 2009.

Stapleton, 28, has seen action in eight games with Atlanta this season after being signed as an unrestricted free agent on Nov. 30. His NHL totals include three goals in 18 career games with Atlanta (2009-10 to 2010-11) and Toronto (2008-09).

Prior to joining the Thrashers, the 5-9, 180-pound center registered 15 points (eight goals, seven assists) in 20 games this season with the San Antonio Rampage of the AHL. He has earned 158 points (66 goals, 92 assists) in 172 career games over four AHL seasons with Portland (2005-06), Toronto (2008-09), Chicago (2009-10) and San Antonio.

The Forest Park, Illinois, native was previously acquired by the Thrashers with Pavel Kubina from Toronto for Garnet Exelby and Colin Stuart on July 1, 2009.

Swimmer, I still think his hip hasn't healed from his hip surgery in the off season. I was looking forward to him having a pretty good year this year too.

Well he took a hard check that slammed him awkwardly in the goal post, I believe during the Toronto game, so that I think was the main cause of this.

Yeah he kinda did some funky split thing as he hit the post. But he hasn't looked 100% since about the 10th game in.

Antropov hasnt make a big impression to me that season but his last season was actually good one.
His plus/minus statistic from this season isnt very good.
Hes very slow skater but intelligent player.
