Thrashers Assign Dunham to Gwinnett; Reassign Stewart and Abid to Chicago

The Atlanta Thrashers have sent goaltender Mike Dunham to the Gwinnett Gladiators of the ECHL on a conditioning assignment, and have reassigned forwards Karl Stewart and Ramzi Abid to the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League, according to Executive Vice President and General Manager Don Waddell. The team’s active roster now stands at 20, with an additional two players on Injured Reserve.

Dunham, 33, was activated from injured reserve on Jan. 12 after missing 28 contests from Nov. 16-Jan. 11 with a groin injury. The 6-2, 190-pound goaltender has posted a 4-3-1 record with one shutout and a 2.10 goals-against average in eight games with Atlanta this season. The native of Johnson City, N.Y., has registered a 133-166-40 record, 19 shutouts and a 2.68 GAA in 366 NHL games with New Jersey, Nashville, the New York Rangers and Atlanta.

Abid, 25, has posted two assists in the last four games since joining the Thrashers on Jan. 6. The 6-2, 215-pound left wing leads Chicago with 17 goals, 20 assists and 37 points in 33 AHL games. The native of Montreal, Quebec, who signed with the Thrashers as a free agent on Aug. 8, 2005, has earned 24 points (13 goals, 12 assists) in 53 NHL games with the Thrashers, Phoenix and Pittsburgh.

Stewart, who was recalled on Dec. 22, Jan. 2 and Jan. 10, has 15 penalty minutes in eight games with the Thrashers this season. The 5-10, 180-pound left wing has one assist in 10 career games with Atlanta. Stewart, who signed as a free agent on Sept. 28, 2001, has 16 points (10 goals, six assists) in 29 games with the Wolves this season.
