Thrashers Agree to Terms With Forward Jim Slater

The Atlanta Thrashers have agreed to terms with forward Jim Slater, according to General Manager Rick Dudley.

Slater, 27, posted 18 points (11 goals, seven assists) in 61 games with the Thrashers last season. The 6-0, 200-pound center set a new career-high in goals and tied his career-high with two game-winning tallies. Slater was also awarded with the 2010 Dan Snyder Memorial Trophy and was a co-winner of the 2010 Gilner-Reeves Community Service Award.

The Lapeer, Mich., native has recorded 88 points (42 goals, 46 assists) in 335 career NHL games with Atlanta. He also appeared in four Stanley Cup Playoff games with the Thrashers during the 2006-07 season.

Prior to his professional career, Slater tallied 172 points (64 goals, 108 assists) in 157 career games with Michigan State University (CCHA) from 2001 to 2005. He was named the Spartans Most Valuable Player in consecutive seasons (2003-04 and 2004-05) and was a two-time selection to the CCHA First All-Conference Team (2002-03 and 2003-04). Slater has also represented the United States in International Competition on two occasions, including the 2006 World Championships and 2002 World Junior Championships.

Slater was selected by the Thrashers in the first round, 30th overall, of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
