Thrashers Add Clarke MacArthur From Buffalo For Two Draft Picks

The Atlanta Thrashers have acquired forward Clarke MacArthur from the Buffalo Sabres for a third round choice and a fourth round choice in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, according to Executive Vice President and General Manager Don Waddell.

MacArthur, 24, has recorded 26 points (13 goals, 13 assists) in 60 games with the Buffalo Sabres this season. The 5-11, 195-pound left wing is tied for fifth on the Sabres in goals and ranks eighth on the team in points. MacArthur also ranks fourth on the Sabres with three game-winning goals.

The Lloydminster, Alberta, native has tallied 79 points (41 goals, 38 assists) in 187 career NHL games over four seasons with the Sabres from 2006-07 to 2009-10. He earned 158 points (56 goals, 102 assists) in 163 career American Hockey League games with the Rochester Americans and appeared in nine Calder Cup Playoff games with Rochester, posting seven points (two goals, five assists).

Prior to his professional career, MacArthur posted 224 points (88 goals, 136 assists) in 190 games with the Medicine Hat Tigers of the Western Hockey League from 2002-03 to 2004-05, adding 38 points (14 goals, 24 assists) in 44 post-season games. He was named to the 2004 Memorial Cup All-Star Team and was honored as a WHL First Team All-Star after the 2004-05 season.

MacArthur also helped lead Canada to the Gold Medal at the 2005 IIHF World Junior Championships, ranking fourth on the team with four goals in six games.

MacArthur was selected by Buffalo in the third round, 74th overall, in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.

Seems like pretty low return for MacArthur.

Feels like he's been exiled to Siberia, the poor bastard. I guess this was done to make room for Torres?

MacArthur is not really that good though, hugely inconsistent. He'll blow up for like a seven goal streak and then vanish for 25 games. He's also -14 this year.
