With that being said, we will be good in a few years, and we will be back in the playoffs once again come the 2008-2009 season.
I liked Tkachuk, and he was a good player and all, but I will not miss him, for a few reasons. You guys are wrong about him being a "good leader". A leader? Give me a break. Tkachuk isn't a "leader" by any means. He whines and complains all the time, and when he's in a bad mood, he gets his whole team down, and he's in a bad mood a lot, or at least he was in St. Louis. He takes the stupidest penalties I've ever seen. I'm serious. Even if there's 1:30 to go in Overtime, if he gets mad, he will just go ahead and slash the first player that he sees. He doesn't care if it loses the game for his team. He has a bad temper, and he always takes the stupidest penalties ever. He can't control it either, he just cross checks somebody if he feels like it. He led our team in PIM, and he's only been in about 2 or 3 fights this year, so those PM's didn't come from fights, they came from stupid penalties.
Smash, you say that Tkachuk will help in the locker room, but he won't. He isn't a locker room or a team guy at all. Sometimes I found that he was rather selfish here in St. Louis. You are saying all of this stuff about how Tkachuk is a good player OFF the ice, but he isn't. His whiney attitude is annoying. I know he's a good, hard-nosed hockey player, and I did like him for that, but he stopped being a fan favorite here after about one season. Everyone just got aggravated with him.
He is a big named player though, and he's a lot like Mellanby. They are both hard-nosed power forwards, but both of them are getting old too. Also -- Tkachuk will help your playoff run, but once you get IN the playoffs, don't expect him to help one bit. He chokes every year in the playoffs. He did it here in St. Louis, and you can ask ANYONE in STL, and they will tell you the same thing. That's why a lot of people call him "TkaChoke". He is not consistent in the playoffs at all. He may help your team, but I don't think he will help your team as much as you think, Smash. He won't do crap in the playoffs I bet. He chokes every year, and he will this year too.
Even though he was a decent player, he won't be missed by a lot of people in St. Louis, and I'm one of the people that doesn't care to see him go.
The Blues got a lot in return. We got a player, and a ton of picks, so this was a good trade by John Davidson and the Blues. Good luck with him, Atlanta. He's good, but there's a lot of things about him that will annoy you. At least I don't have to hear those "Tkachuk is fat" jokes anymore, haha. But all in all, not a bad trade for both teams.
