Thomas stole the Bruins the Cup last year.

Overstating the obvious, but if these guys don't get resigned, Preds are gonna get really ****ty, really fast. Don't underestimate how much having incredible d-men can prop up a mediocre goalie and pad his stats. (NJDevils17, you catching my drift?

I like that they're using this leverage to try to get their team to improve at the deadline, but I will laugh if it's Suter that gets moved as a rental player for some of that help.

You don't wanna lose either of these guys for nothing.
Trade Suter for dynamic scoring before the deadline, if possible. Sign Weber to a massive Doughty-like extension in the off-season. Our system allows defense to excel, so I think we would be fine losing just one of them.

good question. in the end I think they end up with both, if they don't sign now I don't see it being a problem.

they have $31 million left in cap space as of this post...suter and weber would take up at least $15 million and then they would have to sign 7 more players with the $15 million or so.
to answer your question, yes. team budget wise, no as i doubt they will go over the $50 million they will spend this year. |

it depends because i don't see the cap dropping at all along with the gap between the max and the cap floor is reportedly gonna grow as well (right now it's 75%). so if that happens, i see one of them going as the preds are gonna be towards the bottom spending teams against the cap.
the only way i see both staying is if in the cba, contracts are limited in length and money and there is no way in hell i see the nhlpa allowing that to happen. |
