Strudwick Re-Signs With Oilers

General Manager Steve Tambellini announced today the Edmonton Oilers have agreed to terms with defenceman Jason Strudwick on a one-year contract.

Strudwick, 33, is returning to Edmonton after playing 71 games with the Oilers last season, registering a career-high nine points (2-7-9) and 60 penalty minutes.

Steve Tambellini says, “We were very impressed by Jason’s all around abilities last season and more importantly the leadership role he played. Both Jason and his wife Schoena have been great additions to our organization and our city.”

The 6’3”, 230 pound blueliner has played 559 career NHL games, collecting 47 points (13-34-47), while making stops in New York (Islanders), Vancouver, Chicago, New York (Rangers) and Edmonton.

Drafted by the Islanders in the third round of the 1994 NHL Entry Draft, Strudwick turned pro after a successful junior career, which saw him win back-to-back Memorial Cup championships with the Kamloops Blazers of the Western Hockey League in 1993-94 and 1994-95.

Agreed. Struds is a good guy and I thought he had a real fine season with the Oilers last year. Great to see he's getting another year there.

Very happy to see the Oil resign Struds. He played damn solid defensive hockey last year.

Good to hopefully see a bit more glove off action from him.
