Steve Ott Suspended for One Game

TORONTO – Dallas Stars forward Steve Ott has been suspended for one game, without pay, as a result of an altercation during NHL game #925 against the Anaheim Ducks, the National Hockey League announced today.

Ott, who was suspended for three games in March 2008, now is considered a repeat offender under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Accordingly, he forfeits $17,378.05 in salary based on the number of games in the season (82), rather than the number of days (186). The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

At the 20:00 mark of the third period, Ott and Anaheim forward Travis Moen engaged in an altercation at which time Moen sustained an injury. Ott was assessed a major penalty for fighting and a match penalty for attempt to injure under Rule 21.1.

Ott, who served his suspension on March 1 against Pittsburgh, is eligible to return tomorrow night when the Stars play the Sharks in San Jose.

And it has already been served in the fiasco against Pittsburgh on Sunday. Can't wait for Dallas in Anaheim Friday!

I guess it wasnt as bad as it was made out to be. Hell I pictured Ott grinding his casted finger in Moen's eye. Guess not.

Yea Friday's gonna be a fun one. Man I wish Morrow was back..

I doubt much happens in the Friday game. There's always build up for a game like this and then nothing happens.

I'm sure Ott will be throwing some huge checks, but he is not going to drop the gloves because he can't.

Barch will probably fight someone, but that is not out of the norm.

It would be great if some fireworks went off, but I wouldn't like our chances in a brawl or a bunch of individual fights against Anaheim. We have Barch and Sutherby. Ott can't fight right now. After that, who do we have? Fistric who was supposed to be a tough guy who fighted when he was drafted, but he doesn't fight and he wears a visor. Grossman has been in that one fight. Sydor is scrappy, but doesn't fight anymore. Daley is Daley. Neal has been in one fight, but is not a fighter. Now if we had Barch, Suthery, Morrow, and a healthy Ott then hell yeah that would be awesome. Having said that I doubt anything crazy happens.

I remember when we were playing Nashville after the Tootoo incident on Robidas. Many people thought it was going to be crazy, but if I remember right nothing happened.

That one against Nashville should have been crazy. This one "should" as well, but who knows. I would say the Ducks are more pissed that the Stars but who knows. This game will be after the deadline. Maybe we will trade for BGL.

Cowards

Giguere, Niedermayer, Pronger, and especially Moen are all cowards for going after a player who has been playing with a broken hand for the last month or so. And it saddens me to say this, but every other STARS player that was on the ice when Otter was getting jumped is a coward for not even attempting to step in and help their teammate out. I guarantee if Morrow, Daley, or Barch had been on the ice they would have had Ott's back. And I think Moen deserves to get suspended for starting a fight with a player who has not been able to fight for at least a month now. Ducks are *******.

Did you even care to watch the video?? I'm a Stars fan, but even I know Ott went after Scott Niedermayer and Giguere... Moen was sticking up for his team mates... It's his job..

Dont worry, Bettman and Campbell will be on the phone to Anahiem warning of the hefty fines that will be dished out if they even think of getting slightly physical.

And the refs already know what they need to do

Ott shouldn't have been starting sh!t with the ducks captain if he can't defend himself. Though one of his teammates should have helped him out.

HAHA, you are soooooo right. So the guy who fought Naslund should get suspended too? Naslund can't fight.....
Ott was hacking at Niedermayer, if Moen didn't go after him I'd be disappointed.
It's Dallas' fault for having Ott out there on his own.
Lesson to Ott: Don't start sh!t if you can't fight back or be a good little boy and behave.

yeah it's sad but in todays NHL there are no "retribution" games anymore. 90% of the time a fight filled game is followed by a passive game. It sucks

Nov. 22nd, 2006 Caps/Thrash Brawl

Philips Arena was packed to see some fireworks for the meeting after this brawl and nothing happened, in terms of fighting. Just Ovechking scoring 3 goals (1 to tie the game under a minute and another 10 or so seconds into the OT) to win the game, 3-2 for the Caps. I do remember J.P. Vigier challenging Brash on two separate occasions and him declining.

Matching Minors from the Game:
03:18 Donald Brashear : Roughing - 2 min
03:18 Jim Slater : Tripping - 2 min

12:42 Braydon Coburn : Hi-sticking - 2 min
12:42 Alexander Semin : Hi-sticking - 2 min

14:15 Scott Mellanby : Holding - 2 min
14:15 Alexander Semin : Diving - 2 min
