Steve Montador Agrees to Terms With Buffalo
Buffalo Sabres GM Darcy Regier announced today the Sabres have agreed to terms with unrestricted free agent defenseman Steve Montador on a two-year contract.
Montador (12/21/1979, 6’, 210 lbs.) had 21 points (4+17) in 78 combined games for Boston and Anaheim last season, along with 143 PIMs and was a +17. He also contributed three points and 18 PIMs in 11 playoff games with the Bruins. A native of Vancouver, B.C., the 29-year-old Montador has 68 points (18+50) and 604 PIMs in 368 career games with Boston, Anaheim, Florida and Calgary. Montador was originally signed by Calgary as an undrafted free agent on April 10, 2000, following a four-year OHL career with North Bay, Erie and Peterborough. |
w00t! :p

Did he know Orr signed with the Leafs???
|
Sounds about right money wise.
I liked Montador but am happy to see him gone. He's tough and gritty but oh God how he scared me when he had the puck in his own end. |
Monts and Rivet. i can diggit
|
Pretty good deal. The Sabres need more size and toughness, so Montador is a good defenseman for them to get. They still need a legit enforcer though.
(And Montador is better than Matt Walker but yet Walker still gets more money. Shows how stupid Tampa Bay is)... |
Is Andrew Peters still under contract in Buffalo?
|
nope he's a ufa

With Monty, Kassian and a few of the other players, Buffalo *MIGHT* become more gritty this year. :p |
great signing for Buffalo... in a day of age where any half decent D man gets 3+ million... somehow Montador who can play ANd provides toughness continues to sign very reasonable contracts.... he played for 850,000 last year!!
great team guy would love him on Detroit |

At least this Sabre will shed the mits, sure he'll get pounded after the mits are gone, but at least they'll pick up some more FMs.
