Stars Trade Mark Fistric to Oilers

The Dallas Stars announced today that they have acquired Edmonton's third-round pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft in exchange for defenseman Mark Fistric.

Fistric, 26, has spent the last five seasons with the Dallas Stars, skating in 257 career NHL games and has earned 23 points (3G-20A) with 220 penalty minutes in that span. The 6-foot-3, 231-pound defenseman, led all Dallas defensemen with 235 hits last season and ranked third on the team with 105 blocked shots.

The Edmonton, Alta., native was Dallas' first-round selection (28th overall) in 2004.

That Oilers backline is getting better every day. Theo Peckham and now Fistric that is a great shutdown pair.

Peckham is now 8th on the depth chart - won't even be an Oiler this year unless he can beat out Potter for the 7th spot.

The "woeful" Oilers D isn't quite so bad now... It's not the team's strength, but Petry/Whitney/N.Schultz/J.Schultz/Smid/Fistric/Potter is not a bad top 7... it just isn't great.

Maybe there is hope in Edmonton? Finally, a guy in charge who doesn't believe Lennart Petrell is a legitimate roster player.

Also seeing reports that Pecker has a tweaked hip that would make him not ready for opener.

A bit of grit in the Oilers zone. Better learn to drop the mitts in this division though. All those hits, someone is going to call that dance card.

Shocked to see he is that low. Felt like he was a shoe in for the top 6. Certainly is much improved from just a couple seasons ago though.

I'm sure he's happy to leave Dallas, a team going nowhere to a young team loaded with talent & grit. The Oilers should be a powerhouse in a couple of seasons. He's also from Edmonton, a former Giant who now joins former teammate Chad Scharff who is the new equipment manager.

Not pretending to know a lot about Fistric but why would the stars trade their young, big leading hitter and a good shot blocker for a third round pick? Diesn't add up.

It's crazy to think Brenden Dillon, the non flashy and at times unnoticeable defenseman for the Seattle Thunderbirds would one day be in a position to play in the NHL. And I don't mean any disrespect to Dillon as I liked him as a player. I felt he was very underrated. Good on him, I hope he makes it.

I don't know what Joe is thinking in Dallas, but trading one of your top young hard hitting physical defenceman in Fistric on a already depleted and very thin blueline for a lousey 3rd ??? seriousley ??

Dallas Stars are looking more and more pathetic every trade and decision that organization decides to pull off.... Still scratching my head on the Neal to Pittsburgh deal and deciding to keep a player in Richards who they knew would have little chance on resigning with them in the past... but what's done is done I suppose.. I think he's trying to beat the Calgary Flames on head scratchers!!
