Stars Tjarnqvist and Grossman From Iowa
FRISCO, Tex. – Dallas Stars General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today that the club has recalled left wing Mathias Tjarnqvist and defenseman Niklas Grossman from the Iowa Stars, Dallas’ primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL).
Tjarnqvist, 27, was assigned to Iowa for a conditioning assignment on Nov. 25 and appeared in two games, posting one goal and one assist for two points. He has skated in one game for Dallas this season, notching two penalty minutes in 10:25 minutes of ice time on Nov. 22 vs. Nashville. In 52 career NHL games, the 6-2, 196-pound left wing has recorded three goals and five assists for eight points with 20 penalty minutes. The native of Umea, Sweden skated in 33 games for Dallas last season and posted six points (2-4-6) with 18 penalty minutes. In 34 games for Iowa a season ago, Tjarnqvist netted 17 goals and added 12 assists for 29 points, ranking fifth on the club in goals and sixth in power play goals (5). Grossman, 21, was recalled for the second time this season after being a healthy scratch in Detroit on Nov. 27. The Stockholm, Sweden, native has appeared in 22 games with the Iowa Stars this season, registering two goals and one assist for three points with a team-leading +9 rating and 22 penalty minutes. He appeared in three preseason games with the Stars during their 2006 exhibition schedule. The 6-3, 206-pound defenseman played in his first professional season with Iowa last season, collecting five points (2-3-5) with 49 penalty minutes in 61 games. Dallas second round selection (56th overall) in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Grossman served as the captain for Team Sweden at the 2005 World Junior Championships. |
