Stars Sign Eric Godard

Frisco, Tex. -- The Dallas Stars announced today that the club has agreed to terms with right wing Eric Godard on a two-year contract. The first year of the contract is a two-way deal worth $750,000/$105,000 while the second year is a one-way agreement worth $700,000.

Godard, 31, spent the 2010-11 season with the Pittsburgh Penguins, appearing in 19 games with three assists, a +4 rating, and 105 penalty minutes.

The 6-4, 214-pound right winger has played in 335 career NHL games, scoring three goals and 12 assists for 18 points. In eight NHL seasons, he has accrued 833 penalty minutes and has appeared in seven career playoff games, registering one assist and six penalty minutes.

The Vernon, B.C., native was originally signed as a free agent by the Florida Panthers on Sept. 24, 1999. Godard has also played for the NY Islanders and Calgary Flames before joining Pittsburgh on July 1, 2008.

Wished the Pens could have re-signed him, but good for Eric. Shame though that he couldn't get a 1-way deal in both years, but hopefully he gets the playing time he's been looking for.

BTW, good job, Ray and Mario.

Barch and Godard seems like a decent 1-2 punch.

Barch's contract is up after this year so Godard will take over for sure the following year.

It'll be interesting to see whether they send him down to the minors while Barch is playing. Godard is an NHLer IMO and I hope he stays up all season.

Games between LA, DAL, or ANA should be all fun this coming season.

SJ may be very tough as well. Phoenix needs to stop being fairies and bring some toughness in!

you can hope, but i sincerely doubt that McGrattan makes the Ducks out of camp. Parros is already in tow and plays a pretty regular shift, McGrattan has fallen out of grace since his days with Ottawa.

as for this signing, good on Godard to get more then a 1 year deal, most enforcers get only a 1 year pact with the 2 way treatment.

If Godard does go West he lives up to the reputation as the giant killer and lay a beating on John Scott.

this is good for dallas because i think Barch was a huge disappointment last season. hes always a little bit of a punching bag but he seemed to not care or have any fire in him lastyear.
