Stars Sign Ellis and Barch to One-Year Contracts

FRISCO, Tex. – Dallas Stars General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today that the club has signed goaltender Dan Ellis and right wing Krys Barch each to one-year contracts.

“Both of these players showed promising potential this past season with the Iowa Stars and we are happy to have them back for next season,” said Armstrong. “We will look for them to continue to improve their games and make impacts within our organization in 2006-07.”

Ellis, 26, appeared in 34 games with the Iowa Stars of the American Hockey League (AHL) last season, registering a 16-13-1 record with a 2.78 goals-against-average and a .911 save percentage. The 6-0, 186-pound goaltender also added an assist for Iowa.

Dallas’ second round pick (No. 60 overall) in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, Ellis played in his only NHL game with Dallas on Feb. 8, 2004, stopping 25 of 28 shots in a 4-3 victory at Los Angeles. A member of the 2003-04 Kelly Cup championship Idaho Steelheads squad of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL), he was named 2004 Kelly Cup Playoffs MVP after going 13-3 in the post-season with a 1.86 goals-against-average.

Barch, 26, skated in 43 games for Iowa last season, recording seven goals and six assists for 13 points, to go along with a team-high 129 penalty minutes. He also appeared in all seven of Iowa’s Calder Cup Playoff games, posting an assist and 27 penalty minutes.

The native of Guelph, Ont., also appeared in 14 games with the Greenville Grrrowl (ECHL) in 2005-06, notching 14 points (10 goals and four assists) and 75 PIM. The 6-2, 200-pound right wing was originally drafted by Washington in the fourth round (No. 106 overall) of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft.

He is not really a heavyweight, he maybe can hold his own against a few of them but mostly will get his ass handed to him.
But atleast he fights..

He isn't a Heavy , but anyway a decent Light-Heavy who is willig to Fight anyone ( for example Low last year).
It's good to have a guy like him in the system-

Barch is one of my favorite minor league players. I saw him play a couple games two years ago, and he gave it close to 100% every shift. He's not that bad of a fight either.
