Stars Re-Sign Krys Barch to Two-Year Deal

FRISCO, Tex. – The Dallas Stars announced today that the club has re-signed right wing Krys Barch to a two-year deal worth $1.15 million ($575,000 each season) through the 2009-10 season. Barch’s current contract was set to expire at the conclusion of the 2007-08 season.

“Krys has done a solid job in his role on our hockey club and we are glad to bring him back for the next two years,” said Co-General Manager Les Jackson. “He is a hard-nosed player who plays with an edge and gives us everything he has each shift.”

Barch, 27, has appeared in 34 games with Dallas this season, recording one goal and two assists for three points with 78 penalty minutes. His 78 penalty minutes rank second on the club. Last season, he appeared in 26 games with the Stars, registering three goals and two assists for five points with 107 penalty minutes. Two of his three goals proved to be game-winners during his first career NHL season. The 6-2, 200-pound right wing collected his first career multi-point game on Feb. 23 vs. Anaheim (1-1-2). He also appeared in 31 games with Iowa last season, recording three goals and five assists for eight points with 110 penalty minutes.

Originally signed as a free agent by the Stars on July 18, 2006, Barch skated in 43 games for Iowa in 2005-06, recording seven goals and six assists for 13 points, to go along with a team-high 129 penalty minutes. He also appeared in all seven of Iowa’s Calder Cup Playoff games, posting an assist and 27 penalty minutes.

The native of Guelph, Ont., has appeared in 224 career AHL games over parts of seven seasons, notching 25 goals and 41 assists for 66 points with 444 penalty minutes. He was originally drafted by Washington in the fourth round (106th overall) of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft.

Great to see. One of those smaller heavies, that has no fear and will throw down with absolutely anyone.

One of the more entertaining guys around the league, definetly deserving.

It seems Barch really stepped up to the plate after Fedoruk was unloaded. Good for him. He's definatley made an impression this season, and he was rewarded with a new contract.

Awesome news! Now Barch can be Dallas' full-time enforcer in the NHL for the next couple years, and we won't have to worry about him getting sent down.

Barch is small for a heavyweight at 6'2'' 210, but he is not afraid of anyone. That's what I really like about Krys Barch. He's gotten rocked by guys like Laraque, King, Koci, and Pronger in the past - but he still doesn't give up. He's up to any challenge and is always willing.

Good to see him get re-signed.
