Stars' Ott Suspended Two Games
The NHL has suspended Dallas Stars center Steve Ott for two games without pay for his hit Saturday night on St. Blues defenseman Carlo Colaiacovo.
At 8:33 of the second period, Colaiacovo had just passed the puck out of his end when Ott low-bridged him, flipping the Blues defenseman into the air. He landed hard on his back. He left the game with what the Blues called an upper-body injury. No penalty was assessed on the play. Ott, who previously was suspended for one game Feb. 28, now is considered a repeat offender under terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Accordingly, Ott forfeits $36,585.36 in salary, with the money going to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund. Ott will miss the Stars' two home games this week, Wednesday against Toronto and Friday against Florida. He will be eligible to return for Saturday's game in Nashville. |
I missed it. What'd he do?
Was this for the knee on knee hit on Crombeen or the hip check on Coliacovo?
Hip check on Carlo
Was a good hip check... Didn't go low or after the knees.
If Carlo hadn't of jumped, this wouldn't be a discussion. If he gets two for this, Scuderi better get 20 for his hipper. |
Besides from the hip check being a little late, the hit itself was fine. I think Ott should have gotten suspended for the knee on knee instead of the hip check.
Scuderi's hip check was hilarious to watch. He was practically laying on the ice to hit Chimera! |
Ott's made these kind of hits before. I remember one on Taylor Pyatt as Ott came out of the penalty box. I gotta think he's been warned/fined for it before, and that ranks him as a repeat offender, because this hit itself certainly wasn't one of his worst.
scuderis was even worse but otts a punk...the knee was cheaper anyways
This isn't worth 2 games if Scuderi gets nothing.
Scuderi separated Chimera from the puck. However he did go lower than he should have.
Ott came low after Carlo got rid of the puck. Ott's shoulder is on Carlo's knees. He could have easily shouldered him being that late on a hit.

I would've rather seen some frontier justice from Janssen. Ott's a smug prick so good for him.;)
I'm not sure why the hip check warrants a suspension... I'll guess because it's Ott and Coliacovo has an "upper body injury."
Now the knee to knee hit I can see a warning and/or suspension. |
Wow, the double standard of the NHL continues, Scuderi wont get suspended but Ott does for a pointless hit. If anything Ott should be suspended for the knee on Crombeen
How did he get suspended for that? If not for CocaCola jumping he doesn't low bridge him and he should have been suspended for the kneeing on Crombeen which was MUCH worse, not that!!!!
Im suprised I thought the hit on Chimera was worse then Ott's and Scuderi didn't even get suspended, he only got fined
